Parent Peek at the Week

Week of March 30th, 2020

Week 2 of a different Parent Peek at the Week!

I’ve been debating back and forth about doing a Parent Peek at the Week this week, as I’m worried that information will change before I can even send this out to you! However there are a few things that are informational that I think you’ll find helpful, so this may just be a shortened version of what you normally see.

This week teachers will continue to be supported by the Board in learning some new technology and planning for what this new "distance learning" will look like. We are all in this brave new world together....and don't have all the answers. As soon as we have a better idea of what our next steps will be, we'll be sure to be in touch.

Please continue to check in with Edsby, Twitter and Instagram as we use these platforms as a way to communicate important information, home learning opportunities and general tips and tricks with you. I know these times are challenging for all - and even more challenging for some. Please feel free to email me if I can help in any way. I'd be happy to respond to messages and emails from students, or even set up a little video chat if that would help. Please keep in touch and let us know how we can best support.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

Take care of yourself and each other,

Mrs. Sampson

A few little bits of information.....

As you are aware, at Kawartha Heights we use Edsby as a main way to communicate with our families. Please make sure you check it often! If you haven't been on in awhile and forget your password, or if you aren't set up at all, please get in touch with Mrs. Sampson ( or 705-742-7521). We look forward to connecting with you using this great resource!

Technology and the Internet

Last week, every Kawartha Heights family received a phone call and email asking for critical information to help us with planning. We are asking that any families who do not have technology at home (a computer, laptop or iPad) and/or the use of the internet, please let Mrs. Sampson know as soon as possible ( or 705-742-7521). Once we have all this information, we'll be able to create a learning plan for all moving forward.

Personal Belongings

Many families have contacted us, looking for access to the school to retrieve student personal belongings. Unfortunately at this time, all schools in Ontario are closed. Teachers are allowed in for only 15 minutes one day this week for the purpose of gathering resources needed to begin teaching next week - but we are unable to open the doors to the public. Please know that we are aware of your needs, and as soon as it is safe to allow entrance, we will develop a plan to get you what you need.

When will school re-open?

At the time of posting this newsletter, we have not yet heard any further information from Premier Ford on when schools will re-open. We do know that we will not be open on April 6th as was hoped. Please stay tuned to the news - I expect we will all hear more news later this week.

Keeping in touch with KPR....

Kawartha Pine Ridge DSB has set up a main information page to support families with the every changing information about COVID-19. To access this information please log on to the board's home page, or use this link directly:

It was also announced last week that every KPR School has now been designated a Wifi hotspot. Families without internet are encouraged to use our parking lots (while in their cars and practicing safe physical distancing) should they need access to the internet and don’t have it at home.

Changing our mindset....

In these times of stress, anxiety and challenge, it's hard to see the brighter side. But there is a brighter side to see! The information below helps us reframe what we might see as negative, into a definite positive:

Just one more thing....

In these times that are so uncertain, when we’re worried about our families, thinking about how all our friends and students are managing, trying to keep our spirits high....don’t forget to enjoy the small pleasures in life. There are LOTS of life lessons we're learning together - hopefully some we will remember when this is all said and done. Here's to the simple pleasures in life!
