A Message from Mrs. Booth
Dear Silver Springs Families,
I can't believe that it has been another full week since I have seen all of you! This week also brought the Stay-at-home order issued by Governor Whitmer which I'm certain has sparked a variety of emotions in us all. I hope that you are all continuing to stay safe and well.
Our teachers at Silver Springs are nothing short of amazing! I hope that you have had a chance to check out the Online Learning and Support tools that they have created for your student(s). Be on the lookout for the next online support plan coming to you this weekend sometime prior to 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
I have had the privilege of joining your students as they are "hanging out" or "zooming" with their teachers. I must be honest, this has been the absolute VERY BEST part of my week. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing the faces of your children. Thank you for sharing them with us.
You will see below that we will be doing a Virtual Spirit Week this week to try to keep us all connected to each other! Feel free to post pictures on Twitter @sspringselem or send pictures to your teachers.

March 23, 2020 Assistant Superintendent and Special Services Director Update
March 23, 2020
Dear NPS Parent/Guardian,
As communicated on Friday, we are building upon the online learning resources initially developed to provide a more targeted weekly online learning and support plan for students, along with expanding connections between our teachers and their classroom communities.
No later than Tuesday, March 24, your child’s teacher(s) will electronically communicate a daily learning schedule with you and your child to begin by Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Teachers will be regularly connecting with your child during this time to support them with their learning needs.
NPS will continue to build upon our online learning and support throughout this period of closure. With the possibility of an extended closure, we are continuing to work on how our online learning and resource plan needs to adapt to further support our students and community.
Technology devices are available for loan to students who do not have access. Please complete this Technology Device Checkout Form to request the use of a device. You can reach our Technology Department Help Desk at 248-344-3680 Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm.
PLAN DETAILS:
The online learning and support plan is designed to provide students with academic engagement focused on continued learning, provide students with ongoing connection with staff, maintain a sense of structure in the absence of a school day, and continue moving learning forward during this time.
You can expect your teacher and support staff to communicate online learning and resources digitally, provide a daily learning schedule with learning links and opportunities to practice their learning, develop regular digital teacher-to-student connections, and review and respond to parent/student emails on a regular basis.
You should expect your student to keep a learning routine, fully participate in the online learning opportunities and stay engaged and connected with their teacher(s). To assist your child with their online learning and support plan, please reinforce the daily learning schedule suggested by teachers, reach out to your student’s teacher for clarification when needed, and monitor student participation on-line. As always, you should make decisions based on what you as parents feel is most appropriate for your student and family.
For continued updates from Northville Public Schools related to school closure and the Coronavirus response, please visit our COVID-19 / Frequently Asked Questions page, which is updated daily. We anticipate continuing to refine online learning opportunities over the course of the next few days or weeks as decisions from the Michigan Department of Education, U.S. Department of Education, and legislature are finalized. Thank you for all of your support and patience as we continue to navigate new territory. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have by email nps@northvilleschools.org or at 248-344-3520.
Sincerely,
Aaron Baughman

Silver Springs Playground is Closed
Student safety and well being is at the forefront of all we do for our students both at Silver Springs and across Northville Public Schools. We are asking you to do everything you can to slow the spread. In response to the Governors Stay at Home and Stay Safe order, the playground at Silver Springs will be closed. We appreciate your help in keeping each other safe and healthy.

Medical Mask Help Project
Dear School and Community Members,
Thank you so much for your talent and initiative in helping to create mask covers and face shields! We are so grateful for each person who has contributed materials, cut fabric, sewed, or created. We appreciate your help. The need is great.
We have some requests for mask covers that have a pocket to accept a filter. The video below demonstrates an easy modification to the pleated mask cover shared last week. Please see the video. We would appreciate having these mask covers as well.
Please do not take mask covers or face shields from the boxes to deliver personally to medical facilities. Not every facility is accepting these. The mask covers will be sent to facilities that are accepting them. They are committed to the locations where they will be used.
Sewing questions may be directed to Denise Bryan <bryande@northvilleschools.org>
Questions about medical needs or facilities accepting mask covers and face shields may be directed to: Vidooshi, vidooshi.g.maru@gmail.com, Anita: sinhalogan@gmail.com, or Bindya: pabindya@gmail.com.
Please put your contributions in a baggie with your name and email inside. We want to be sure to thank contributors appropriately. Please wipe down the baggie before putting it in the collection box.
Collection boxes are located outside each NPS elementary school: Amerman, Moraine, Ridge Wood, Silver Springs, Thornton Creek, and Winchester, as well as at Old Village School at the north end of the building and will be collected daily.
Thank you again for your support during these difficult times. Please feel free to share this information.

Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
7-Habits Take Home Activity for March
This month’s Habit: Habit 5 Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Activity: Eyes, Ears, Heart Activity
Due Date: March 31, 2020
Habit #5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
What this means: Listen before you talk. In order to communicate effectively, we must first understand each other.
“I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings.”
“I try to see things from their viewpoints.”
“I listen to others without interrupting.”
“I am confident in voicing my ideas.”
“I look people in the eyes when talking.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Listen.
2. Put yourself in the other person’s place.
3. Notice a person’s body language, tone, and reflection in their voice.
Great Books for Habit #5-Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
Stellaluna by Janell Cannon
Jamaica’s Find by Juanita Havill
