St Teresa's School Newsletter
Friday 24th February 2023
Kia Ora Whānau
It has been a wet February and our thoughts and prayers go out to those on the North and the East coasts as they begin the recovery after Cyclone Gabrielle. The rain has not dampened our spirits here at St Teresa's, our amazing teachers have been Jump Jamming, Cup Stacking and Pancake Flipping to keep our break times fun!
On Wednesday we celebrated Ash Wednesday with a liturgy at the Anzac Hall. A huge thanks to Miss Gray for organising such a special event, and thank you to our Waiorongomai and Takitumu students for leading the Liturgy. The season of Lent is a joyful time of renewal that brings us closer to Jesus Christ. We are called to pray, fast and give generously to others.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:12)
Reminder - Our teachers will attend a paid union meeting on Friday 3rd March. We kindly ask that you support us by collecting your children at 1 pm. You may take them home directly from the swimming celebration. If this is not possible please contact Zoё at office@teresas.school.nz

Time 4 Tamariki Wāwāhi Tahā
Our teachers will attend a Paid Union Meeting (PUM) on Friday 3rd March 2023 to vote on the latest offer from the government. These meetings will be critical in determining the next steps that affect us all. We ask for your support by collecting your child at 1 pm lunchtime. If you are unable to do this please contact the school office so we are able to make alternative arrangements.
We greatly appreciate your support and understanding with this matter, and acknowledge the inconvenience. When we support our children to learn and succeed, we are supporting whānau and communities to thrive.

Movin' March
This year we are participating in Movin’ March again! Tamariki who walk or “wheel” to school will receive a stamp on their challenge passports all through the month of March. Walking or wheeling to school is a great way to get active, know your neighbourhood, kick start learning for the day AND take care of the environment. All student passports go in the draw to win a $400 MYRIDE voucher at the end of March. Plus there will be bonus prizes given out at school throughout March.
If you live too far away, your child can still get their passport stamped. Simply park your car somewhere close to school, like the Featherston Playground, and get your children to walk or wheel from there. It helps reduce congestion around the school gate, gives tamariki exercise and whānau get to share precious moments on the way to or from school.
We are so excited to get started on Wednesday 1st March!

Non-uniform Day
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. It is heartbreaking to see the images of devastation, and challenging to even imagine the emotional devastation being experienced by so many. We are keen to support our Catholic Schools affected by the Cyclone, and have decided to redirect the funds raised from our non-uniform day to the cause. The New Zealand Catholic Primary Principals Association is working with diocesan representatives to determine schools that need support of any kind. We will be able to provide support through the NZCPPA Welfare Fund directly to schools to help them manage their self-identified needs.
A Prayer in the Wake of Cyclone Gabrielle
From the Community of Ordinary Saints
For those who have lost their houses to flooding or collapse,
May you find yourself somewhere safe and warm with loving company to help and hear your story.
For those without power,
May you feel the dedication of all those who work tirelessly to restore your home to light.
For those stranded and far away from loved ones,
May the strength of your relationships bring hope for the moment you can embrace again.
For those that cannot contact loved ones,
May you be anchored by the love of those who wait alongside you.
For those who are mourning a loss,
May you be surrounded by constant love and enduring peace.
For those who have been injured,
May the care you need of body, mind and soul come quickly and easily.
For those who wait in an unfamilar place - uncertain if you can return home,
May the deep care of those around you be your safe place.
For the children who are afraid and confused,
May you find many hugs, a listening ear and moments of joy and laughter.
For those who have lost their means of income,
May the people with the knowledge and skills to assist you arrive easily before you on your path.
For those who have witnessed destruction first-hand,
May your mind and body find peace as you wait for the repair of what is damaged.
For those fatigued following the floods,
May you lean on the strength of loved ones to carry you into another day.
For the emergency workers who continue to work tirelessly,
May sleep and rest come easily when the day is done.
For animals lost and injured,
May you find your way to safe and caring hands.
For the anxious and frightened,
May your breath guide you from one moment to the next in the knowledge that this too shall pass.
For those who mourn the loss of friends and family
May you find comfort and strength to face each day from those who surround you in your grief
For those who have died
May they be carried in the arms of the angels to eternal life and rest in peace.
Amen
