'Together, We Can Make a Difference.' August 3, 2018
Amazing, spectacular, wonderful, excellence, great, and awesome are all words that can used to describe our first week. Students and staff spent a great deal of time reviewing and practicing CORE expectations. There was tons of great energy in the building and a growing feeling that we are on our way to having a great year! This only happens because of great students, parents, and staff. Thank you to everyone who worked to make this an awesome first week!

Why join the Hawthorne PTA?
Joining the PTA allows you to meet some great people. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport and discuss issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences to make the school year better for everyone.
The mission of the Hawthorne Elementary PTA is to act in the interest of the children, to encourage understanding and cooperation between parents and teachers, and to promote programs that benefit the success of children’s learning. The Hawthorne PTA supports education through active participation and advocacy.
Hawthorne Elementary has a very active and supportive PTA. We sponsor many fun events throughout the school year including monthly board meetings, skating parties, Kid’s Night Out and the Hawthorne Family Dinner and Basket Auction. We also provide volunteers for many school events as well as provide support for school programs such as Super Reader, Breakfast with Santa and the annual fund raiser. Please join us for a PTA meeting to see what we’re all about.

Hawthorne Visitor Policy
Parents and visitors are encouraged to visit Hawthorne Elementary. However, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is very important. According to Warren Board policy, parents must provide advance notice prior to visiting classrooms. (This communication should at least take place prior to the start of the school day.) The Principal will provide guidelines at the beginning of each year. Generally, all visitors must have a scheduled appointment with a teacher prior to conducting a visit or must be escorted by an administrator. Parents must have a background check conducted by the office for any classroom visit longer than 15 minutes. All staff needs to help monitor all visitors in the hallway. If a visitor does not have a pass, please politely ask them to check-in the office for their visitor pass and escort them to the door. If they refuse, say nothing and contact the office immediately. Even parents who visit often MUST register at the office and wear a visitor’s badge. Parents and other family members are always welcome to eat lunch with their child. All students and their visitors that bring in fast food will eat outside of the café and only with their own student. The Principal reserves the right to revoke this privilege if a visitor does not comply with board policy and school expectations.
Warren Township Technology Policy
Hawthorne Elementary School is implementing a new 1 to 1 Chromebook program for its students this school year. Each student will be assigned a particular Chromebook for classroom use. The Chromebooks will still be kept and charged in a classroom cart. However, the Chromebooks will be labeled with the School, Classroom, Student Name, and Cart Slot number for storage. Students are responsible for proper care and use of the Chromebook.
Each Chromebook is covered by a District sponsored insurance program for accidental damage. The technology fee will cover the enrollment into the insurance program. Purposeful damage is not covered by the insurance program and will be charged by this payment schedule:
Repair = Family Charge
1st Incident = $5, 2nd Incident = $25, 3rd = $50
More than 3 = Actual repair cost
