Paper Clover Promotion [Oct 4-15, 2017]

Two times a year, National 4-H Council partners with the nation's leading rural lifestyle retailer, Tractor Supply Company (TSC), to host a national Paper Clover Promotion! The Paper Clover Promotion is a consumer-driven fundraising promotion where customers at your local Tractor Supply can support 4-H by purchasing a paper clover for $1 at the checkout. The Fall Paper Clover Promotion will be held Wednesday, October 4, through Sunday, October 15, 2017. 4-H Clubs are encouraged to participate in store during the event to help increase fundraising dollars and be entered into the Paper Clover Participation Sweepstakes. If your club would like to host a booth at the York location, contact the office.

Nebraska Mystery Foods Event

Raising Nebraska & Nebraska Extension are hosting a competitive food preparation event for youth ages 10-18. The Nebraska Mystery Foods Event will be held on Saturday, October 21 in Raising Nebraska located inside the Nebraska Building on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island, NE. Each team, 2-4 youth, will be provided a pantry of food items and the mystery ingredient where they will cook on site to prepare a finished food dish in front of the panel of judges. The 2017 mystery ingredient is sponsored by the Nebraska Beef Council.

Registration and entry fee of $25 per team is due by October 13. Youth can select from the proper age division; Division 1: 10-14 year olds or Division 2: 15-18 year olds. Make It With Wool Competition

All entries are due October 15, 2017, because of the National wool testing requirements. PLEASE NOTE THESE CHANGES:

  • Age is determined by January 1, 2017 (national rule change).
  • In addition to the National and State entries fees there is a $7 wool testing fee per fabric swatch and/or 36 inch length of yarn.
  • Entries are mailed to Andrea Nisley, PO Box 757, Lexington NE 68850-0757 (see brochure).

Nebraska Youth Beef Leadership Symposium (NYBLS)

Do you have an interest in livestock? Then the Nebraska Youth Beef Leadership Symposium might be for you! Open to any high school student, it will be held Nov 17-19 at UNL’s East Campus. Participants will have a broad overview of many aspects of the beef industry, will be able to meet and work side-by-side with UNL faculty and chefs, and be able to network with some of Nebraska’s greatest beef industry leaders. National 4-H Volunteer e-Forum

This fall we have a wonderful opportunity to provide training to adult and youth 4-H Volunteers across the state through the National 4-H Volunteer e-Forum series! Three different sessions will be offered on October 5, November 2, and December 7, from 6-7:30 p.m. (CT).

During each session, virtual presenters will share content; host site facilitators (Extension staff and/or volunteers) will lead on-site, hands-on activities based on instructions provided; and adult and youth volunteers will interact with each other on-site and with volunteers from across the country via chat pods and poll questions. Resources will be provided for volunteers to use with the 4-H members in their clubs.

Each county can choose to host any or all of these sessions at a central location and invite your adult and youth 4-H Volunteers to attend. Multi-county sites are also an option. Registration is now open! A separate link is available for each session:

Martha and Don Romeo Scholarship

Nebraska Association of Fair Managers

The Nebraska Association of Fair Managers will award a $500 scholarship to one qualifying 4-H male and a $500 scholarship to one qualifying 4-H female who are graduating seniors in the State of Nebraska and who plan to continue with post high school education. The scholarship will be awarded at the annual NAFM convention in January. Applications are Due December 1.

Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop

A Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop is scheduled for December near Ashland. It will be held December 9-10 at the Ashland Gun Club near Ashland. The deadline to register for the Ashland session is November 29th.

Volunteers have the opportunity to become certified as an adult (21 years and older) or apprentice (14-20 years old) leader in the Shotgun discipline. There is a minimum number of participants required to offer this workshop. Workshop participants will learn under expert instruction from members of the Nebraska State 4-H Shooting Sports Training Team.

The registration fee is $110.00 per person for initial certification or those individuals adding an additional discipline. This fee includes meals, supplies and program materials. Participants must make their own lodging arrangements. Late registration, after November 29th, is $150. Registration on Saturday runs from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
