CR NORTH PRESENTS THE LARAMIE PROJECT
CR North's Sock ‘n’ Buskin is gearing up for the Fall Play, The Laramie Project. The cast of 12 students has been working tirelessly to perform this play that has over 70 characters! You can get your tickets at crntickets.com. $1 of each ticket purchased will be donated to the Matthew Shepard Foundation. This play covers mature content. The recommended audience age is 9th grade and up.
About The Laramie Project
In October 1998, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, while others were citizens of Laramie, and the breadth of the reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

CR NORTH INTERACT CLUB PARTNERS WITH NEWTOWN ROTARY FOR GREAT CAUSE
On Saturday, October 26th, members of the CR North Interact Club volunteered alongside the Newtown Rotary Club in collecting and processing 223 bikes and over 50 sewing machines in their annual community collection. These donations were accepted in connection with Pedals for Progress, a New Jersey based non-profit that sends items to underprivileged areas of the world.
The bikes provide reliable transportation for commuting to work, transporting product to market and accessing health care and other services. Sewing machine shipments help initiate educational programs and generate income opportunities that may otherwise remain out of reach for many people. Steady employment for adults is vital to the development and success of struggling communities.
Items from Saturdays collection were shipped to Gambia, Africa and Albania. It was a great opportunity for North students to work with community members to truly improve the lives of others!
