Hembree Highlights
October 23, 2020
Note from Mrs. Smith
I have learned that there is no such thing as normal. AND we are not looking for "normal" during this time. We are striving for happy, healthy, and connected students. We are working hard to make sure that students fall into ALL 3 categories.
Things are falling into place and we are getting better with our practices like carpool and just the routine of school activities. Even though things are falling into place, we are still diligent in our safety practices due to COVID.
If you are interested in monitoring the number of COVID cases within Fulton County Schools, please make sure to visit fultonschools.org. Each week the number of cases and quarantined individuals within each school is updated.
An update on our Title 1 status: We are still endanger of losing our Title 1 designation. You have one more week to complete the free/reduced lunch application. Thank you to all that have already done this. Our school is able to function at a higher level because of the financial support that Title 1 funds provide. Please be sure to click the link below to complete this form.
Report Cards: We know that you have access to your child's grades in Infinite Campus, be we wanted to take an opportunity to send those home as a hard copy. We feel like grades are a form of communication and we wanted to overlap virtual and hard copy to ensure that you are aware of your child's grades. We may change this model in the future, but for now we will print these until we can ensure that every parent has access on Infinite Campus. So please check your child's backpack for their quarter 1 report card.
I want to take a moment to shout out our teachers and staff. They have been able to manage every day changes with remote and F2F instruction. They have been the most flexible staff ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our Hawk community to pulling off educating our children during this time of constant change with a smile (not with ease because I know it has not been easy!).
Have a great weekend!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

We STILL Need You!
We NEED YOUR HELP! We are currently in danger of losing our Title I funding for NEXT school year. This could mean a loss of funding to pay for additional teachers as well as student /parent resources and materials. While it’s hard to think about next year right now, it’s important we do so, as losing this funding would greatly affect our school and the benefits families can receive outside of school.
If you have NOT done so, please apply online at: www.fulton.schoollunchapp.com
YOU MUST REAPPLY EVERY YEAR, so if you qualified last year but have not applied again this year, you will need to do so.
And even if your child is not coming face to face, there are so many ways this will support our whole school as well as provide benefits to your family outside of school.
Benefits of a Title 1 School and/or qualifying for Free and Reduced Meals includes but are not limited to:
*Additional funding for schools (For Woodland this is used for our two STEM/Gardening teachers and additional parent/student materials and resources)
*Allows some of our #aWESome teachers who must work in a Title 1 school to get the loan forgiveness they need
*Allows families who qualify, even if their child does not eat in the cafeteria, benefits outside of school such as cheaper internet, could have received the Pandemic EBT funding, and other assistance needed
*Schools can receive discounted or even free busses and entrance costs for some locations for field trips
The application is easy & takes only minutes to complete
You can do that by taking the survey below!

From Our PTA
Hi Families! Happy October!
Since we can’t celebrate Halloween as usual this year, we thought it would be fun to have a virtual costume contest! Email Ashley Russ a fun picture in your costume. It can be a new costume, one borrowed from last year, or you can be creative and pull together a costume from items around your house. Please email your picture to ashleyjruss@gmail.com by Friday, October 23rd. We will create a video of the entries to share with everyone and winners will be announced the week of Halloween. Best of luck!
Calling on Our Community!
Do you know someone who is a friend of Hembree Springs in the community? We would love for them to join our PTA and be a voice from the community! Our school theme this year is to speak up and speak out (Your Voice Matters). As part of this theme, we are encouraging community members to join us in conversations around advocating for our school children.
We are working to reach our goal of 30 community partner memberships by October 31st! Feel free to forward this link to family members or neighbors interested in supporting Hembree Springs and the local community.

We are doing more than ever to support our community members in this difficult time. Won’t you tell your friends and neighbors to join us?
It's Box Tops Time Again!
Although the Box Tops program has gone digital, unexpired Box Tops can still be sent in to earn cash for our school. Through October 25th, unexpired Box Tops can be placed in the manila envelope labeled “Box Tops" in the Drop Off box in front of Hembree Springs. This year, due to Covid-19, parents are also able to submit box tops directly to the program by following the instructions on this site:
https://www.boxtops4education.com/Consumer%20Submit%20Box%20Tops.
Please get your Box Tops in and don’t forget to scan your receipts into the app when you purchase eligible Box Tops products.
