Kids and Phones
How to Turn Kids’ Phones Off at Night (or Anytime, Really)
Starting to think about allowing phone usage with your elementary student? Read this article! Taking away your kid’s phone at night isn’t the only way to make sure they get a good night’s sleep (and avoid any inappropriate late-night use). You can enable settings that lock phones from dusk ‘til dawn--or any other time you want to make them unavailable. (This can be done with Apple or Android devices.)
Last Call - Lost and Found
All lost and found items left at school after May 30 will be donated to charity.
I'm Bored!
Summer is coming and unfortunately, we parents often hear this phrase. In looking for ideas to bust boredom, I came across someone else’s clever idea a “Boredom Jar”. Simply stated, this is a jar (made as cute as you choose) with activities to complete when your child states they are bored. The suggestions were fun (create an obstacle course) as well as chores (clean the bathroom) and also included quiet activities (read a chapter in a book). Pinterest has great ideas to make a boredom jar fun and including your child in making up the activities could be a great plan too.
Chores can also be more of a battle in the Summertime. Think about turning chores into a game! Chore BINGO could be fun or I even saw a chore punch board (like you see on The Price is Right) made of plastic cups and tissue paper. I can remember doing chore games as a child and it made the “have to” so much more fun!
Most important, eliminating power struggles and frustrations will allow you and your child more opportunities to enjoy each other without conflict and still get done what needs to get done. Take time to enjoy each day!

Kindergarten Play Date
We are happy to invite you to bring your new kindergartener to a playdate at our school on Thursday, May 16 at 9:30am. Our teachers will lead games and play activities for the kids, and our staff will spend some time with parents. When you arrive at Heavilin, please pull in to the back parking lot and enter Door L. Our playdate should last about 45-60 minutes. No need to RSVP. Please plan to join us if you can!
