Principal's Reflection
Tena koutou katoa e te whānau
Experiencing history unfold was very moving, as I watched the funeral of Queen Elizabeth on Monday evening. We have been privileged to witness centuries of tradition since the announcement of the Queen’s passing. All the pageantry and ceremony befitting our Queen who served us so well. I loved the special tributes where her other roles were acknowledged: as a mother, a grandmother, a dog and horse lover. The Queen demonstrated many fine values we can be proud to emulate.
Our wonderful Queen, May she rest in peace.
Winter Sports
Our winter sports season has finished and the summer sports have began. Over the past couple of weeks many of our winter sports teams have held prize givings to complete their season. I would like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of our parents who support the various sports in our school. We are blessed with the parents and staff who take on coaching and managing roles. Thank you very much. I would like to thank our Sports Coordinator Adrianna Cubillos - for her work providing various sports for our children to experience.
Inter School Speeches and Cross Country
We have had a number of inter school events over the past couple of weeks. Our students always do us proud as they represent themselves, their families and our school. Thank you for being fine ambassadors of our school as you go out and compete with other schools.
Wonderful opportunity - Jump Jam
Congratulations to our Jump Jam teams; Marian Mana and Marian Movers who competed in the recent Freshman Jump Jam competition. The teams have been spending many hours practising during this term to prepare. They all looked stunning in their striking costumes. Marian Mana won the competition and will be competing in the National Competition in Tauranga in November. Thank you Brooke Goodwin and Colette Arnold for your work with these students. Thank you to the parents for your ongoing support.
Grandparents Day - Thursday 22 September
Tomorrow is Grandparents Day. This is a very exciting day in our school calendar. To maximise time for our Grandparents to visit classrooms after morning tea, Mass will start at the earlier time of 9.30am. Grandparents are welcome to join the classes from 8.30am and walk over to Mass with the class. We have a full day planned for our Grandparents and ‘Nearest and Dearest’ visitors.
Term Three has been a busy full term of sporting, cultural and academic successes. I would like to congratulate our students on all their successes this term. I would like to thank our families for all your ongoing support as we work with your children. Next week, we have Day Light saving starting, Queen Elizabeth Memorial Day and the promise of holidays ahead.
All the very best for an excellent last week of term.
Arohanui,
Debra

Gospel Reflection
In the gospel Jesus tells the parable of the Dishonest Steward, who used his wits to gain favour. We are reminded that honesty is the best policy. If we are honest in the little things in life, we will be honest about everything else too.
Jesus says we can’t serve both God and money in our lives. God says that we should be generous with the money that we do have and use it to look after others.
Money can not make us happy, because true happiness comes from loving God. We are free to live as we choose, because God trusts us to do what we know is right.
Charism Focus
Our Charism focus for this term is LIVE FAITH. This week we are focusing on our participating at church, and showing God we are thankful for all we have. We are so fortunate at Marian as our school is just beside the Cathedral. We have many opportunities - at class prayer time, visits to the Cathedral as a class or as a school at Masses or Monday liturgy to be fully involved and participate.
How can we participate in Church? It is not just for the person speaking up the front, we can also be involved. We just need to join in and respond. To show that we are part of the community of faith we respond enthusiastically in singing and responding in prayer and praising God.
In week one we discussed the beautiful world that God has created for us - one of the many things that we are very thankful for. How often during the day do we take time to reflect on the things that we have and to thank God for them?
Living our Faith this term is an opportunity for us to show that we are thankful - responding with kindness and thanks for things that we have been given and not taking them for granted. Spend time talking to God and thanking God for all that has been given to us. Being the hands, face and voice of Jesus to those we meet.

MISSION DAY 2022
Friday 21st October: As part of LIVE MISSION in Term 4 we celebrate a very special day on the school calendar, when we raise funds to support the work of the Mission Sisters and Marist Brothers overseas, Feed the Hungry Programme at the Cathedral and the Hamilton Combined Christian Food Bank.
It is so good to be able to celebrate this special day this year as COVID restrictions happened last year.
LC5 students are working hard to come up with a range of fun activities and items to sell to all other students on the day. Please collect together any unwanted, but in good condition, toys, games and books that could be sold at school by LC4 on our Mission day.
More details of Mission Day will be shared next week.

Many students from school have begun their preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist which they will receive in November. We pray for these students and their families as they continue on their faith journey.
