Important Community Updates 3/16
A Personal Note From Principal Lamour: We Are Stronger Together!
Hello Luce Crew,
I write to you as an aunt, a godmother of 10-small children, a teacher, and your proud principal. We are in an unprecedented time when there are more questions than answers. As the leader of the Luce, I like you, share similar concerns. I worry about the well-being of our children, our staff, and our families. Everyone in our community matters! I am writing to you to let you know that together we will make it happen! We are stronger together and will get through this as a community (locally and globally).
As I mentioned, many questions remain unanswered for all of us. What we have in our locus of control is our ability to have compassion, be responsible, and practice social distancing. I have received many emails with questions on how parents can support other families that may be in need. I am so proud of the level of care and compassion our community has exhibited. If you would like to help out another family in our community, please reach out to Charlie Aspinwall, the Town Administrator.
During this time, many families and staff have asked me about report cards, parent conferences, and work during the time we are off. Also, I am sure students are also worried about this uncertain time. These are all valid inquiries. I want you to know that I also have similar questions; we are all working collectively to answer these questions. For now, the short response is that we will have to be flexible with timelines as we are trying to make the best decisions that are in the best interest of our community as a whole.
Many parents have asked me for academic resources, websites, and other tips for the next 3-weeks. I would strongly encourage you to try to establish a daily structure with a realistic schedule that you can manage. Every family will approach this differently. However, it is essential to keep some normalcy, meanwhile attending to your child's academic and social needs. Although social distancing is critical, your child should be able to go outside to get fresh air and to get out their energy in a safe manner.
Also, we want to provide you with some resources that can be helpful to your family. The district has shared educational resources via email, and they are linked to our school website; our community will receive further updates from our Superintendent in the coming week now that we know that our closure will be longer than this week.
Some suggestions for a typical daily schedule may include:
Independent reading or reading to a child (15-30 min a day)
Regular exercise/ movement (outside)
Math/ ELA skills practice
Choice/ Creative Time
Journaling
Read ebooks from the library
Play card games, or dominoes to practice math skills
Free Time

I am reminded of a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." – Martin Luther King Jr. I want you to know with all sincerity that we, as the Luce Community, Canton Public Schools and the Town of Canton, we all stand together as one family and crew. If you have an urgent question or need help in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out to me either via email at lamoury@cantonma.org or via phone at 781-989-0037. All inquiries are welcomed.
We are in this together, and we will come out of this together!
Stay Safe, Luce Crew!
