Q1-What evidence did Alfred Wagner use to support his theory of continental drift?
He thought it was bacause the theory of Pangea. The continents seemed to fit together like a puzzle. They drifted apart millions of years ago.
Q2-Why do you think people didnt believe the continental drift theory when Wagner first explained it?
Because this kind of thing sounded unusual at that time. It was probably like saying super heroes exist and fight crime with super powers. It was an unusual thing at that time. Also he didn't have evidence for it.
Q3-Who were the 2 scientist that brought fourth supporting evidence to Wagner's theory and what was their evidence?
Harry Hess and Arthur Holmes were two scientists that brought forth supporting evidence to Alfred Wagner's theory. They published the idea that the thermal convection in the earth's mantle could cause the continents to move.
Q4-What are the 3 types of plate boundaries?
There are three types of plate boundaries : divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundaries
Q5-What types of movement can occur between plates and what features can form from this feature?
In convergent plate boundaries earthquakes can occur because the plates are crashing into each other. In divergent plate boundaries earthquakes can also occur during these movements inside the Earth. In transform plate boundaries like in California many earthquakes occur a year there.
Q6- Give a specific example of a location on Earth where each type of plat boundary is present.
Transform - California, Convergent - Pacific Ocean, Divergent - Africa and Europe
Q7-What do plate tectonics and ocean trenches have in common?
Because they both basically have the same process at convergent boundaries when one tectonic plate goes under each other called subduction
Q8 & 9-How old are the rocks off the east coast of North America relative to the rocks right along the mid Atlantic ridge?
These rocks are over 4.6 billion years old. This is because these rocks have been there since they have been forming with the earth.
Q10-What is a convection current or cell, describe how it works
Q11-What are the 7 major plate boundaries?
The African plate, Antarctic plate, Eurasion Plate, Indo-Australian Plate, North American plate, Pacific Plate, and the South American plate
Q12-What are two bad events that can happen as a direct result of plate tectonics?
Volacanoes and Earthquakes
Q13-How did plate tectonics cause these events?
They can crush into each other and form volcanoes and earthquakes as convergent boundaries
Q14-What are three good things that plate tectonics cause these good events?
It can provide some fertile soils, fossil fuels, and ore deposits
Q15- How do plate tectonics cause these good events?
When they are making their plate tectonics processings
