Extra Points : Coach Pomazak's Message

Stars Football Family -

Just like that, we are at week 9! I cannot believe it! Where did this season go? This is a great example of the importance of living in the moment and enjoying every morsel and crumb our season gives us. I told our players this past week that these are the "good ole days". Someday they will look back upon these moments as some of the happiest of their lives. We must never take our fortune for granted because it can be fleeting, and none of us know what lies ahead. It has been this mindset that has allowed me to enjoy this season to its fullest. This year has been special, and it is only getting heated up! The second season is coming!

Our varsity Stars found victory lane yet again and have assured a share of the conference crown with their hard-fought victory over Glenbard North 14-7. It was a cold and rainy night in Carol Stream, and our boys knew they would have to battle for their victory. The message at halftime was simple. We just need to believe and execute. The blueprint was there, onside the opening kick (which we had practiced all week) score on the next possession, and then the defense and run game would do the rest. I kid you not; this was our message. It is a testament to our boys to be able to execute it to the letter. We have earned the right to play on the big stage this Friday. It will be a capacity crowd in Batavia, and we are ready! It is time yet again to LEVEL UP!

At the lower level, we had a split decision. Our sophomore football team earned a well-deserved 21-18 victory on Friday night. It was great to see the smiles on their faces as we took the field for our game. Our sophomore team has been improving each week, and it is always nice to be rewarded! The freshman team was on the short end of the stick with a gut-wrenching 21-18 decision in favor of the Panthers. Yet another gutsy performance by our kids and more proof that this group will be a formidable team in the years to come.

THAT'S RIGHT! THE STARS ARE OFFICIALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS ! WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN ?

In the IHSA, not every team will make the 7a playoffs. Only 32 teams get the honor of being in a playoff. Essentially, it is like winning a regional championship to get in. To determine who gets into the playoffs, the IHSA has a set of rules.

1. 5 wins make a team playoff eligible

2. 6 wins is an automatic bid

3. Conference champion is an automatic bid

4. Seeding is based on records and the points

5. 1 point is awarded to the team for every win on their schedule

* PLAYOFF TIME MEANS AN EXPANSION OF OUR PRACTICE SQUAD AND ROSTER

- IT IS ESSENTIAL TO UNDERSTAND THAT JOINING THE VARSITY IS A COMMITMENT

- PLAYERS WILL BE HELD TO VARSITY ACCOUNTABLE FOR ATTENDANCE

- ALL SOPHOMORES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE PLAYOFF RUN ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD

PROGRAM DAY

Our program prioritizes the first 20 minutes of practice to a program connection every Wednesday. We call it Program Day, and during that time, we highlight each level and talk about our journey. Our captains deliver a message for the week and our coaches have an open mic to discuss anything that they feel is relatable to the week. It is always a very special time and one I cherish as an opportunity to connect our program. Here are some highlights

Freshman Player of the Week: JAMESON JOHANSEN

Sophomore Player of the Week: BROGAN SONS

Varsity Offensive Player of the Week: JOELL HOLLOMAN

Defensive Player of the Week: RYAN DALEY

Special Teams Player of the Week: HUNTER LISZKA
