Field Flash
December 3, 2021
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. We are so proud of your children and how they transitioned back to Field after the week away! This coming week, our students in grades 2-5 will take their winter reading and math MAP tests. We'll continue with any make-up testing the following week so that this is squared away before our two-week winter break.
A few COVID-19 related items:
- For families who have their children participate in the weekly testing, thank you for your patience with the transition to Exam Corp. While we are thrilled that they have the ability to send PDF reports to parents directly, we encountered quite a few data hiccups. We anticipate a much smoother experience this coming week.
- This past week, you should have received an email from our District Health Department. It included the following information: As a reminder, students who are signed up for weekly COVID testing should stop testing once they are 14 days past their second dose of the vaccine.
- Uploading Vaccination Cards
A reminder to parents: if your child has received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine you can upload their vaccination card to The D64 Powerschool Parent Portal. Please wait to upload until two weeks after their second dose, when they are considered fully vaccinated
This will be used for contact tracing and subsequent quarantining decisions and the information will remain confidential.
How to upload your child's card:
- Go to the D64 Powerschool Parent Portal and login with your credentials (same as when you registered)
- Click on your student's name in the tabs across the top of the screen
- Click on the FORMS icon on the left navigation menu
- Click on the COVID-19 Vaccination Information form and fill in the required information.
I also wanted to share a bit of information about students and music. While we typically host a holiday singing performance in December, we are not able to gather in large groups at this time, so our music team here at Field is preparing a family-style at-home sing along. I'll share more details in an upcoming Field Flash.
In other holiday news, the City of Park Ridge Youth Services Commission will be holding their annual New Year's Food Drive starting December 13. Their mission is to restock the local food pantry in the new year when their inventory is traditionally low. Those interested in donating will be able to drop off items in the marked bin located outside our main office the week of December 13-17.
A few additional important reminders:
- Colder Weather: Now that the weather feels more like fall, please make sure that your child is dressing to be outdoors for the lunch/recess hour. We instruct students who bring coats or sweatshirts to wear them when we are outside. Please be sure your child is dressed for outdoor recess.
- CARES tickets: as part of our building-wise positive behavior system, students can earn CARES tickets. Each Friday, each classroom selects a winning ticket and that student comes down to the office for a small prize. As a building, we were working towards a building-wide ticket goal - students have selected the November incentive, which is "teacher switch day". If we reach our building-wide goal, our teachers will switch classes for 30 minutes on Friday, December 3rd. We are so proud of our students and their excellent respectful and responsible behavior!
I hope that you have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney Goodman
Principal
Holiday Food Drive
Weekly Testing and Test-to-Stay
District 64 has moved to using a new testing agency for its weekly testing and test-to-stay programs. Exam Corp began providing the testing this past Monday, November 29th.
As a note, Exam Corp will continue with saliva tests for students. However, nasal swabs are an option should parent prefer and/or should a student not be able to produce enough saliva for a testable sample. If you have concerns about your child being offered a nasal swab in the instance that they cannot produce enough saliva, please do not hesitate to reach out to our main office. Thank you!
Field Family Sing-Along
Field School students are learning a seasonal song to share with their families at home over Winter Break. Once students have finished learning the song in class, we encourage students to perform for all available family members to spread some seasonal cheer. Students may even wish to teach the song they learned to their grown-ups after performing it for them!
Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade students will have access to the accompaniment recording in Seesaw. Mrs. Kapustka and Ms. Kwasny will show students exactly how to access the recording during class time. Additionally, students will be able to access the lyrics in Seesaw. The accompaniment recording will become available in Seesaw starting on the evening of Wednesday, December 15, 2021. The recording will be taken down from Seesaw on January 5, 2022 in accordance with the copyright permissions we were granted.
3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade students will have access to the accompaniment recording on Schoology. Mrs. Kapustka and Ms. Kwasny will show students exactly how to access the recording during class time. Additionally, students will be able to access the lyrics in Schoology. The accompaniment recording will become available in Schoology starting on the evening of Wednesday, December 15, 2021. The recording will be taken down from Schoology on January 5, 2022 in accordance with the copyright permissions we were granted.

4. Students can hand their single submission into their teacher in the classroom, at the front office or electronically to fieldschoolyearbook@gmail.com
