Mr. Finkle's Message

What a busy few weeks it has been with the Prom, Awards Night, and amazing musical performances by all of our groups! It has been so gratifying to see the students enjoying all of the events that we have to offer here in Delran.

Today also marked the day that all 9th to 11th graders received tentative schedules for the 2019-2020 school year. As always, the schedules are tentative and may change over the summer due to many circumstances. If you or your child have any concerns about the tentative schedule, please reach out to your child's guidance counselor. HERE is the letter that was attached to your child's schedule.

On a more serious note, as I had mentioned a few issues ago, the graduation requirements for the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2022 had not yet been determined or communicated by the State of New Jersey Department of Education. Yesterday, I received the new graduation testing requirements for those classes and can be found HERE! Thank you for your patience!

As we look towards the end of the school year, we have finals and graduation to look forward to. Please read the section below on Final Exam week! Very important information is contained in the section on what finals are being given and when.

I will publish another broadcast next week to communicate once again the final exam schedule and graduation procedures.

Final Exam Week

The schedule for the last two weeks of school is as follows:

Thursday, June 13th - Full Day

Final Exam Period 1. (7:30 - 9:30)

Friday, June 14th - Early Dismissal

Period 2 - 7:30 - 9:30

Period 5 - 10:00 - 12:00

Monday, June 17th - Early Dismissal

Last Day for Students

Transportation to DHS:

Busses will run at the normal pick-up time ONLY. If your child does not have an exam during the first exam period, we will have a quiet study area for them.

Transportation Home from DHS:

Busses will take students home after the first exam session (9:45 a.m.) and again at the end of the second exam session (12:00). If your child does not have an exam during the second session, we ask that they leave the school campus following the first exam.

As in the past, all students MUST be present for their exam. Make-up exams are NOT given in the case of absence unless medically excused and contact has been made with the school. There are no exceptions to this procedure.

Every class will meet for the final exam period except for Study Halls and Lunches. The only student exempt from a final exam are those SENIORS who have earned a grade of 90% or above for all four marking periods as per the Student-Parent Handbook.

May Students of the Month

Congratulations to Emre Ozdemir and Moses Rodrigues who were nominated to be our May Students of the Month!

Emre was nominated by Mr. Shaun Deloche for his academic performance, character, respect, attendance, good work ethic, and diligence. Emre has been a model student. He is respectful and shows great character by holding the classroom door open for his classmates in the morning! Emre's success in the classroom is directly related to his excellent work ethic and diligence.

Moses was nominated by Ms. Lindsay Durham for his class participation, leadership responsibility, school spirit, and good work ethic. Moses is being nominated for making a positive impact on the culture and climate of DHS. Moses has been lending his artistic skills to the school, everything from painting the new bear logos in the weight room to personalizing football for staff members, to creating the chalkboard designs in the lunchroom. We are grateful for his act of community service and look forward to his future creations.

Delran Band Day

What an amazing afternoon! Band students from Delran Intermediate School, Delran Middle School, and Delran High School had the opportunity to play music together. All the students that participated in Band Day had a blast. Thank you Ms. Wendy DeVicaris, Mrs. Kim Hickson, Mr. Matthew Ordog and Mr. Daniel Finkle for allowing this day to occur. Also, thank you to our amazing Band Guru Mr. Tom Rafter, and the high school section leaders.

A special thank you to our parent volunteers and Mr. Lagay for helping with all the "day of logistics".

Arrive Alive Assembly

Last week, DHS hosted the Arrive Alive Tour. Arrive Alive Tour uses a high-tech simulator, impact video, and a number of other resources to educate individuals and communities about the dangers of texting and drinking while driving. The distracted driving simulator allows participants to experience, in a controlled environment, the potential consequences of texting/drinking and driving.

Students entered an actual vehicle (with battery disabled and car immobilized) and put on a virtual reality headset. Sensors are connected to the vehicle’s gas/brake pedals and steering wheel, enabling the participant to experience drugged driving without the real-life consequences. Upon exiting the vehicle, each participant is handed a mock citation detailing the ramifications of their simulation, as explained by a facilitator. An external LED monitor is set-up near the vehicle, showing what the driver is experiencing in their simulation in real time.

Please, join with me and encourage your teen to pay attention to the road at all times. Remind them of the value of "Arrive Alive" and the consequences of distracted and impaired driving.

2019 DHS College Application Essay Workshop

This workshop is designed for members of the Class of 2020 who plan to apply to colleges in the fall of 2019. At the end of this course, which will be held in Room 102 at DHS, students will have a completed final draft of a college application essay. Graduation Information

Post-Graduation Plans Form

It is very important that every senior complete and return the Post-Graduation Plans Form to Mrs. Kitty Newman, Guidance Secretary. This information is posted in the Graduation Program. This mandatory form gives us permission to send your transcripts to your post-secondary school.

Project Graduation Information

The Delran Middle and High School PTA is proud to be sponsoring Project Graduation 2019 on Friday, June 20th from 9:15pm to 3:00am at The Moorestown Field House. Project Graduation is a drug and alcohol-free party for the graduates held on graduation night. It allows our graduates to celebrate with their fellow classmates in a safe environment. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased on the following dates:

  • June 4th - Senior Night
  • June 5th, 6th and 7th - during lunch periods
  • June 10th, 11th and 12th - late sign-in desk

To be guaranteed a prize at Project Graduation, tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, June 12th. Please see flyer for additional information.

Alumni Walk

We are paving the way to celebrate Bear Pride! We are very hopeful this year’s Senior Class will buy a brick and cast their permanent legacy on DHS. It looks like we have established a new tradition of not only allowing a platform for individuals, but also each graduating class as a whole, to leave their mark. Mr. Guidotti's Update

The 2019 Spring season is coming to an end and we are still cheering on one more athlete this weekend.

The Boys' and Girls' Track teams competed at the Group 2 South Sectional meet at Delsea Regional on May 24th and May 25th. The students represented Delran very well and several athletes qualified for the Group 2 Championship on May 31st and June 1st. The following students advanced: Kaia Eder, Tati White, Miekel House, Brendan Depenbrock and Stephen Grello. The Group 2 championships took place at Central Regional High School. Miekel House qualified for the Meet of Champions in the 100-meter dash. The Meet of Champion is this Saturday, June 8th at Northern Burlington Regional. Good luck Miekel!

The Softball Team is your 2019 Group 2 South Champions! The first time this team has won this achievement since 1995. The team defeated Audubon 4-1 on their home field. Junior, Lindsey Cramer was fantastic on the mound while Freshman, Brooke Acker hit the go-ahead two-run home run into the left field fans. The team is so excited that they get to continue this amazing season. With this win, the team got to participate in the State Semi-final game on Friday, May 31st at Stockton University against Bordentown. The season did not end the way the team wanted but the Lady Bears had an amazing run and played as a team the entire season. Go Lady Bears!

The Baseball Team made it to the second round of the NJSIAA State Tournament under first-year Head Coach, James Goodwin. The students had a great season for the Bears and the future looks bright for the program. Alexander Madera has been chosen to participate in the Senior All-Star game. RJ Moten, Kristopher Giangreco and Alexander Madera have been chosen to participate in the Carpenter Cup game. RJ Moten has been named to 1st Team All-South Jersey. Congratulations to the Bears on a successful season.

The Golf Team ended the season at 6-6 with a very young team. The students had a great time together, creating great bonds between each other. The four members of the team who participated in the BCSL Open on Tuesday, May 28th at the Old York Country Club all shot under 100. This is a great accomplishment and the program appears to be heading in the right direction.

Congratulations to all of the student-athletes and coaches for a wonderful 2018-2019 school year. I am so proud of the efforts by everyone. It is amazing how a small town can stand toe to toe with any school in the state. Enjoy your summer and Go Bears!

The Class of 2019 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is quickly approaching which means we need nominations for athletes, teams, contributors and coaches. If you have someone in mind who you feel should be a part of this special group at Delran High School, please go to the Delran High School webpage, select Athletics and select the Hall of Fame Nomination Form tab. Print out this form and return it to the Director of Athletics by July 3, 2019. The form will ask for specific information that will help the committee to decide who should be a part of the class of 2019. There are also hard copies located in the main office.
