Thank You PTO and Families!

Hillcrest Staff send a HUGE shout out to our PTO and families for such a wonderful event last week. Italian Night was an amazing success! It was wonderful to see everyone come together to plan, prepare for and enjoy this event. The funds raised in this one evening supports the work our teachers do in their classrooms every day. What a great way to come together for our kids!

Thank you to Kim Smith and Nicole Grisar for chairing the event. There are so many details you both followed up with and the amount of outreach and planning required to pull off an event this size is remarkable. Thank you to Nicole Zeroth for organizing ticket sales, Lori Loeschmann and Heather Ward for all of the festive decorations. The bake sale was organized by Alyssa Ludtke and Angela Paap and thank you, also, to everyone who contributed all of the items for sale! Thank you to Nikki Hoch for organizing and wrapping the class baskets and Rob Grisar for being the emcee for the event. Thank you to Jessica Schilz for all of her work in organizing the delicious meal and auction items. Thank you, Shelly Gebert for organizing the class art projects and thank you to Andy Vossekuil for all the help setting up for the evening and for making us credit card ready. There are SO many more to thank...including Kat Kaiser, Stephanie Damien, Jen Thede and Jen Siefert. Thank you to all of the family members who donated time the night of our event and to the Hillcrest staff members who donated their time time, classrooms and recipes to make the night a success!

Hillcrest's Little Hero

Our very own Simon in kindergarten acted bravely this week when his grandmother fell at home. Simon grabbed the phone, called 911 and calmly told the dispatcher what his grandmother needed AND his address so the paramedics could arrive! Great job, Simon!

Report Cards and Continuum Updates

We finished the second trimester on March 6th and Trimester 2 report cards are now available for families to view in Infinite Campus. To view your child's report card, log in to Infinite Campus, click on the reports tab and select Trimester 2 Report Card. There is a screen grab available HERE if you would like to see what this looks like on a desktop computer.

Also, teachers are sharing continuums with families throughout the next week. Please keep an eye out for an email from your child's teacher. These continuums give you specific feedback on your child's progress in math and reading. If you need some help understanding how the continuums are organized, HERE is a short video for your reference or you can reach out to your child's teacher.

As you are probably aware, we will be administering the Forward Exam for all third, fourth and fifth grade students. This is a Department of Public Instruction requirement for all school districts. The tests are designed to obtain important information about each student’s achievement in the areas of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts (only fourth grade students take the science and social studies tests). At Hillcrest, we will be administering the Forward Exam during the weeks of April 8th and April 15th. Please see the attached information for the complete schedule and additional information.

Kindergarten/First Grade Concert Coming Soon!

This is a friendly reminder about our annual Kindergarten/first grade concert, which will be held in the Hillcrest Gym on Thursday, April 11th at 6:30 p.m. All are invited, whether or not you have a student at Hillcrest! The title of our concert is “All about Animals” The dress rehearsal will be earlier in the day at 2:00 p.m. Parents or relatives who are not able to attend the evening concert are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal. HERE is additional information for 1st grade families.

Reading Incentive Program Update

There will be no reading calendar this month. The students who have participated in 3 of the last 5 months will receive their Great America ticket sometime in May. We will resume the reading calendars after spring break.

Ms. Lauer's class won for February with Mrs. berg and Mrs. Schiefelbein’s classes coming in a close 2nd and 3rd!

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders

Thank you so much for everyone's help with making our pick up and drop off procedures work for everyone. Our pick up time has gone much smoother lately! Don't forget, if you utilize the drop off area, students should be able to exit on the sidewalk side independently. Also, if you have other people who are helping to pick up and drop off your child, please make sure you let them know about the traffic flow, too.

Personal Devices

Our school board policy prohibits the use of personal communication devices in school. If students bring a cell phone to school, it should be off and in a zipped up backpack during the day. This includes smart watches and tablet devices. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the office and we will relay the message. Students should not be using email for private messaging throughout the day.

Waukesha Sings!

On Saturday, April 6th, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Hillcrest and at elementary schools throughout the School District of Waukesha have a one day singing opportunity at Waukesha West High School. From 12 p.m. to 5:30, students will be rehearsing music together. Parents DO NOT need to stay with their student all day. However, you will want to return at 5:30 p.m. to hear the terrific concert! Please see the flyer displayed around school and attached in this newsletter. The website is rebrand.ly/waukesha-sings for more information and how to register your child for this event. Deadline is TODAY. Students MUST register in order to participate. The event is free our charge. Also, students CAN participate in both the optimist swim meet and the choir event! Please see Mrs. Runingen or email her at lruninge@waukesha.k12.wi.us if you have any questions.

Safe Arrival - Available Now!

Hillcrest is now fully up and running with the district's new attendance reporting system, Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival allows you to report an absence or appointment at any time from your phone. Our attendance line is still available for reporting absences but we encourage you to give Safe Arrival a try. We know you will find it to be an easy to use system that is available at times that work for YOU!

1) By far the easiest way to interact with the new system is by downloading the app on your phone and signing up for an account.

2) If you are not an app user and prefer to use your computer signup and login at https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

3) The phone option is still available by calling the attendance line at school. There will be a menu there to transfer your call into the new system. You may however, want to use the direct number 1-866-490-7371. By dialing direct from a phone that is registered with the district, the system should recognize the number you are calling from and be able to quickly identify your children and allow you to confirm their absence.
