The Gator Gazette

Gator Greetings
Although we had a short week, it was jam packed with teaching, learning and many exciting events at Allisonville! We started the week with Twos-Day (2/22/22) which was so much fun! Check out the photos in the Gazette – students and staff were very creative! On Thursday, 2nd grade students hosted their Marketplace to buy and sell items that they created with their classmates using “class cash”. This was a fun and interactive way to learn about economics, production, and marketing. Also on Thursday, 5th grade enjoyed having a virtual author visit with John David Anderson to wrap up their Fantasy Reading Unit. Today we had our Black History Month Showcase and were able to highlight many Allisonville students through a drum circle, poetry reading, art contest, spoken work, African dance, and more. Sampson Livingston, the tour guide of downtown’s Cultural Trail, was our emcee. What a treat! He is amazing and engaging and knows so much about Indiana’s African American History. If you are interested in viewing a recording of the Showcase, please click on this link and forward to minute 5:00 when the Gator Gathering begins.
Looking forward to next week, on Wednesday, we have vision screening for Grades 1, 3, and 5. If you have a vision concern, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Reeves. Wednesday, March 2nd, is also Read Across American Day. We will be celebrating at Allisonville that Gators Are Super Readers and encourage all students to dress up as a superhero or wear their best superhero shirt on Wednesday. Beloved author Shannon Anderson, who has visited our school before, will kick off Read Across America Day at Allisonville with a school-wide zoom to tell us about her new book, I Love Strawberries. Students will be participating in other reading activities throughout the day in their classrooms as well. We know that just like any sport, practice makes perfect. To be good at reading, you must spend time doing it and cultivating a love for it! That is what Read Across America Day is all about. Happy Reading Gators!
Tonight is the Talent Show. I can’t wait to see many of you there! Admission is $3 for adults and students are free. Doors open at 6:00pm and the show starts at 6:30pm. Concessions will also be sold for cash only. Come out to have fun and see all the amazing talent Gators have to offer!
