Balancing a Busy Week
School is back in session, and your teen is busier than ever. And although you may miss seeing your teen around, you’re just happy that they can have a normal high school experience. Now your family is free to pack in the extracurricular activities and make up for any lost time during the pandemic. Soccer tournaments. Art fairs. Debate team. Oh my! As much fun as sports and performing groups can be, kids also need unstructured time to relax and let loose. Free time allows them to get creative and nurture their body and minds. This week’s podcast release is focused on time management. If you have a child that is involved with a lot of extracurricular activities, check in occasionally by asking yourself these questions: Do they seem overly tired, or don’t seem to have time to get enough sleep? Do they resist going to activities they normally enjoy? Are you noticing organizational problems, slipping grades, increased anxiety, or unexplained headaches or stomach aches? You support your child’s physical and emotional development by allowing them to regularly take breaks. Kids do better in school and all other aspects of life when their needs are met. Check out the episode for a practical exercise you can use to evaluate your family calendar. In as few as 15 minutes, you’ll be able to strike a balance between active and quiet activities that will benefit the entire family’s mental health.
