Language Arts
This week in language arts we learned about Adverbs. We also took our last Extensions in Reading test! Students learned the strategy of Real vs. Make-believe. There is another review story in the Extensions in Reading workbook. Please make sure your child completes it over the summer.
In language arts each student has been working on a poetry book filled with original poems. On the cover is a QR code that you can scan with a QR reader on your phone to watch your child read a few of their favorite poems. These books are coming home in Friday folders.
MATH
We started off the week by learning how to order decimals and why it is such an important concept to know. They learned what the phrase “every second counts" means by watching a video of Michael Phelps winning the gold medal by one hundredth of a second. Students then finished off the week by going on a “shopping spree.” They were given $100 to shop. Once they were done shopping, they had to convert their spending into fractions and decimals.
Weather
We continued discussing the water cycle this week and even learned a water cycle song to the tune of "She’ll Be Coming around the Mountain". Ask your child to sing it to you. We also made bracelets in class that represent the water cycle. Students will be tested on weather next Wednesday, June 1st.
