DOE Increases Digital Learning Grants, Recognizes 32 School Districts
INDIANAPOLIS--The Indiana Department of Education’s Office of eLearning is excited to announce the awardees of the 2017 Digital Learning Grant. This grant supports corporations in providing professional development, developing content and expectations, creating avenues for parent and student communication, as well as purchasing devices.
“This was a competitive selection process and I congratulate these school districts,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I am confident they will use these dollars wisely, making a significant impact on learning for all students.”
Sixty-four districts applied for this year’s grants. Thirty-two districts were successful in pitching their proposals, totaling $2,342,664. This is an increase of eleven grants and an additional $467,664 over last year’s awards. Awarded grant amounts ranged from $35,000 to $75,000. More information can be found on the grants page.

Mr. Hite explained, "Last week, Tom Norris, Jaime Miller, Jennifer Lee and I went to Indianapolis and made a proposal to the DOE for the grant. We asked for money to pay teacher stipends, fund professional development of technology integration into teaching, and carts for our 2:1 device setups for the 2-5 levels. The focus will be elementary teachers for incoming classroom sets of devices and all secondary new hire teachers."

Get Involved with STEM Locally Through The Franklin Initiative!

Enriching STEAM Time through Service Learning!
R-BB students in all grades K-5 will be utilizing STEAM time during the fourth nine weeks to plan, design and implement unique classroom service projects. Each classroom’s goal is to design a collaborative project that demonstrates students’ knowledge of plants, ecosystems and all of the interdependent species right in our R-BB backyard, while improving our school community in a meaningful way! Ask your child about his/her project and contact your classroom teacher about supporting their project!

You do not want to miss this opportunity! EECC offers full day classes, half day classes, and a choice of days per week your child attends (based on availability). Latch-key is also available for before and after school care. Please share this information with your friends and neighbors!
EECC provides services for ALL students who are at least 3 years of age.
EPS & SES Kindergarten Registration
Saturday, April 8th 2017 at 9am-12pm

If you have or know of any children who will be ready for Kindergarten in the fall of 2017, please plan to attend this registration event. Students zoned for EPS should go to EPS for this event, and students zoned for SES should go to SES for this event. Although doors open at 9:00 a.m., parents may bring their child at anytime during the 9:00 - 12:00 window.
The process takes about 20 minutes plus any wait time.
Parents need to bring their incoming K student, copy of student's birth certificate & vaccinations, and proof of residency (utility bill, bank statement, lease, etc.).
Parents will fill out necessary paperwork and online forms while the student is quickly assessed by teachers (basic color, letter, and number identification). It is usually quick and enjoyable! Please share with your friends and neighbors!
Please park in the BACK off of Sycamore, and enter the back door to the cafeteria.
The front doors will be locked.
RBBCSC 2nd Annual "Find Your Fit" Health Fair w/Free Dinner!

This event will be held at EPS & EIS buildings.
MANY community partners and school groups will host tables to help families "find their fit."
Expect a free meal and giveaways while supplies last!
EPS & EIS Students -- After School Soccer Program
Monroe County Parks & Recreation’s after school soccer program will be held in the Edgewood Primary gym on Mondays & Tuesdays from 3:15-4:30 pm, beginning March 27. This program is open to EPS and EIS students. The fee is $34 and preregistration is required. Contact 812-349-2800 or visit www.mcparksandrec.org for more information.
Natural Resources/Ecology Club Opportunity for 3rd -12th Grade Students
If you like to get the down n’ dirty on all things nature, then save the date! Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 10am to 4pm, will be the first meeting of the Monroe County 4-H Natural Resources/Ecology Club. We will be meeting for approximately 6 hours at Flatwoods Park exploring the relationships between plants and animals in the park and the environment. You will have a chance to learn about bats and birds, as well as other wildlife in the area, bugs, trees, plants, the soil, groundwater, and geologic history! You will participate in fun activities and make new friends! Email Mary Beth King at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your space by April 14th! Be sure to pack a lunch and wear weather appropriate clothing. We will be investigating wetlands and the stream, so rain boots are preferred footwear. The cost for this event is $20 for anyone not currently enrolled in 4-H. It is free for those who are currently enrolled in 4-H. This is a rain or shine event and space is limited to 40 participants. Registration will start at 9:30 am on the day of the event. The fee for non 4-H members must be paid at registration. Save your spot today!
