A Note from Mrs. Lee
Dear Parents,
We are so glad to finally have had a normal week this week. Students are adjusting very well to the routines, and they are doing a great job at focusing and learning.
I wanted to let you know about the new marquee. You may have noticed that it’s been set up. Due to the power lines not being accessible at this time, there’s a need to connect it underground. That will take some time. I cannot wait until it is ready to light up, but we will wait. Thank you for your patience.
We are in need of volunteers for PTA. If you are interested in volunteering please email Cathleen Tiscareno at skaggsptavolunteers@gmail.com. No matter how much or how little time you have, we have a spot for you. Cathleen will contact you and find the role for you. You will receive a job description so you are 100% prepared. Urgent needs are room parents. If you are interested in helping out during the 3 parties a year, please email Cathleen Tiscareno.
Have a wonderful long weekend, and we will see you on Tuesday.
Karen Lee

PACE Referral
PACE is a gifted enrichment program for students who have demonstrated the need for advanced instruction. At the elementary level, PACE is a weekly pull out program in which students are removed from the general education classroom to work under the guidance of a gifted specialist. The time spent in the PACE program varies according to the grade level of the student.
Referred students in K-5 are assessed in the first semester to determine January placement. District-wide CogAT tests administered to first, third, and fifth grade students are part of the data used to determine the need for gifted services. Kindergarten, second, and fourth grade will be administered the district approved PACE battery of assessments, including CogAT, upon referral. Students may be assessed for PACE only once each academic year.
Students may be referred for gifted services by teachers, parents, principals, counselors, or by the students themselves. Students are assessed at their home campus during the school day.
K – 5th Grade Referral Deadline is September 13, 2019.
For more detailed information about the PACE program, please refer to https://www.pisd.edu/giftededucation. Online referral forms are available at this site. If you prefer a hard copy, please contact Kyla Ahnemann, Gifted Specialist, kyla.ahnemann@pisd.edu.
