Malcolm R. Ing, MD reflects on his clinical faculty experience at JABSOM
Highlights while serving on the clinical faculty of the Division of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery, John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii
Malcolm R. Ing, M.D., F.A.C.S
Clinical Professor of Surgery (Ophthalmology)
I joined the Clinical Faculty of JABSOM in 1968, and, at that time, we assisted medical students with cadaver dissections of the orbit. My activity subsequently expanded to delivering lectures to medical students each year. In these lectures, I taught the essence of Pediatric Ophthalmology as I had been fortunate to have had a fellowship in this subspecialty with Drs. Frank Costenbader and Marshall Parks, who were the first pediatric ophthalmologists in the US.
Remembering Dr. Randal Covin May 11, 1962 -- August 17, 2020
Dr. Randal Covin touched the lives of many in Hawaii and much of the western United States. As a medical student on the mainland, an assistant professor at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), director of the Blood Bank of Hawaii (BBH) for 12 years, and as its consultant for the past two years after he relocated to the Pacific Northwest, he was known for being accessible, caring, and enthusiastic about the processes of blood banking and transfusions. The JABSOM 'Ohana is sad to learn that Dr. Covin died suddenly in Portland, Ore., on August 17, 2020.
