Counselors Corner
Eisenhower Middle School Guidance
Fall Newsletter
Who does not enjoy the changing colors of the fall season?! Taking a hike in these colors can be a breathtaking experience! Some might say ‘it’s a dreary reminder that daylight savings time is coming; that cold weather is coming’! This is true, but just remind yourself that every season, like every life experience brings with it the good, the bad, and the opportunity for growth! Those changing colors remind us that situations change and there is hope in that knowledge! It means the tough situation shall pass!
Change means a new school won’t always be new; new students will become good friends; new teachers will bring with them different tools you may gain from! These are opportunities to grow and be resilient! Let’s take this as a time to set new goals, meet new people, new teachers, new friends. Let’s set new trends for ourselves and our communities–A trend to be kinder, to be unique, to celebrate others’ differences, to make it the best school year yet! As we “fall back” with daylight savings time around the corner, let’s still “spring ahead” to be the most welcoming and positive school community we have ever been! Be the reason a new kid says “I’m so glad I ended up in this school community!”

October is the month to acknowledge a drug-free life as well as to show kindness and compassion to others. This year the Roxbury School District will acknowledge this important month with a district-wide theme of “Kindness is Giving Hope to Those Who Think They are All Alone in This World”. The students in the district will be given the opportunity to participate in daily October challenges that show their commitment to kindness, respect, and healthy choices. Please click on the calendar to see the various acts of kindness activities.

Parental support plays an important part in helping preteens and teens succeed in middle school. But as students grow more independent during these years, it can be hard for parents to know which situations call for involvement and which call for a more behind-the-scenes approach. Here are 10 ways to keep your child on track for academic success in middle school.

The PEER Youth Mentoring Program offers a trusted and supportive adult to serve as a coach, friend, and advisor for your youth as they navigate the aftermath of an unprecedented and truly difficult year. A PEER Youth Mentor is someone who operates as a listening ear and ensures that your child knows that they are in the driver’s seat of any goal planning and decision making. Our youth mentors come to this field with lived experiences as it relates to the recovery world and will use their insights and experiences to inform their mentoring work.
