Principal's Message
September is School Attendance Awareness Month. Research shows that good attendance throughout elementary school matters to overall school success. Missing just 2 days a month means a child misses 10% of the school year, which will no doubt impact learning. By middle school and high school, poor attendance is the leading indicator of dropout. We want to make sure that our students have good habits of attendance so they are successful at Sequoia and beyond. Please reach out to us if you are having trouble getting your child to school or to school on time. Periodically, we will give attendance awards at our monthly assemblies to encourage perfect attendance throughout the year.
In my last newsletter I briefly discussed our Garden Group and Safety Committee. If you are interested in building plans for our students this year in the garden, we will be meeting in the front office on September 10th at 11:45. We encourage any parents to come, gardening experience or not. We will work together to create a great garden experience for our students! In addition, a meeting about school safety and a facilities plan moving forward for a more secure campus will be on September 20th at 3:00 in the library. If you have an interest in learning more about our emergency plans and looking at our campus with a critical eye to ensure safety for students and staff, please join us. Let me know if you plan to attend either meeting at bclark@rvusd.org. I'd love to see parents of several grade levels involved!
I wanted to let you know about an exciting piece to our students' school experience this year. We will have a significant increase to technology devices in every classroom! All Kindergarten classes will have a ratio of 3:1 ipads, 1st grade will have a ratio of 3:1 touch screen Chromebooks, while 2nd grade classes will have a 3:1 ratio of Chromebooks. 3rd-6th grade classes will have a ratio of 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks. These devices will bring 21st century learning to our classrooms with opportunities to collaborate, create and innovate!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Clark
