Panther Parent News
3rd Edition, Volume XVIII, January 6 2022
From the Desk of Principal Harris
Langston Hughes Family,
Thanks for a great week back. There were so many refreshed faces walking through the halls. We look forward to the excellence of our scholars this semester.
Grade Reports
Semester Grade Reports will be available through Infinite Campus on January 13, 2023. If you have concerns or questions about your scholar’s progress, please reach out to your scholar’s teacher, first. They are the ones that can truly speak to the grades in the gradebook. If you need assistance beyond that point, please involve the department chair and the department administrator.
LHHS 6A Championship Celebration Parade
As you know, our Varsity Football Team are the Class 6A State Champions. As such, the City of South Fulton will be hosting a celebration parade on January 14, 2023. Please see the flyer below for more details. Come out and show your Panther Pride!
Thank you for locking arms with us and marching through 1st semester! I expect to have all hands on deck as we begin this semester.
Mr. Harris, Proud Principal of Langston Hughes High School
ACT School Day
Attention Class of 2024 Families/Students
Fulton County Schools is excited to offer 11th grade scholars an opportunity to take the ACT during the regular school day on Tuesday March 7, 2023, at no cost to the student or his/her family. This exciting opportunity gives our students a chance to measure their readiness for life after high school, whether they are going to college or into the workforce. If you are interested in signing your scholar up for the March 7th ACT, please complete the following survey no later than Friday, January 13, 2023, at 11:59pm.

Accommodations Request Directions:
If you are needing to request accommodations for the ACT, please follow these directions. ACT is committed to providing access to the ACT test for examinees with documented disabilities and English Learners through appropriate accommodations and English Learner (EL) supports. To request ACT accommodations, please sign the consent form that is attached and return it to Mr. Haire (hairer@fultonschools.org) and Dr. Isom (isom@fultonschools.org) no later than Friday, January 13, 2022. For more information on ACT accommodations, please visit ACT’s website at: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration/accommodations.html.
Finally, we hope your students have a positive experience with the test. Here are some quick reminders to give your student before March 7, 2023:
- Bring two sharpened No. 2 pencils with good erasers.
- Bring an ACT-approved calculator (see link below for more information).
- Get plenty of sleep Monday night.
- Eat a healthy breakfast Tuesday morning.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Leave the cell phone in his or her bookbag, at home, or be prepared to turn in it to the examiner.
Finally, remind your student why taking the ACT matters: it can help them get into college; it gives them information on careers they might enjoy; and their scores can lead to scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
Go to the ACT general test tips page for more information.
Our district is excited to give this opportunity to your students. Best of luck!

High School Summer Internship Program
What is the STEM @ GTRI High School Summer Internship Program?
The STEM @ GTRI High School Summer Internship Program is a paid, five-week internship where Georgia students have the opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by GTRI faculty and staff.
Students (16+ years old) must complete the online pre-application to be included in GTRI’s 2023 applicant pool, which is the first step in the internship application process. The purpose of the pre-application is to match students with a summer internship opportunity. Completion of the pre-application is not a guarantee of being selected for an internship position.
All students must complete the online pre-application in its entirety before Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 at 11:59 p.m., to be considered.
How do students apply?
Interested students must submit a pre-application prior to the Jan. 22 deadline. Please note that completing the pre-application is a requirement, but not a guarantee of employment. GTRI faculty and staff will review the pool of applications from the pre-application, and will set up interviews with applicants being considered for an internship position.
