Mission of St. Joseph Academy

St. Joseph Academy, a Christ-centered Catholic community, rooted in faith, knowledge and values, inspires students to live the gospel message in school, the community, and the world and to achieve academic excellence through relevant and challenging curriculum.

Emergency Closing Protocol

As we watch the storm threatening Florida, I take this opportunity to remind you of protocols that we follow should the storm affect Polk County. The policy for the Diocese of Orlando states that we will follow the direction of the local county school system. If Polk County Public Schools should close for severe weather, we MUST also close. In that event, we will be sure to communicate with families through email, text message, and facebook. Please keep in mind that local administration has authority to reopen the school when deemed safe for students to be in the building. We do not have to wait for public schools to reopen. Again, communication will be made by emails, text messages, and facebook.

Receiving Text Messages?

Over the course of the past few weeks, Mrs. Haas has sent a couple text messages to all parents in our community. Have you received any text messages from the school?

Depending on how you listed your cell phone number in Renweb (FACTs SIS), you may or may not be receiving these important messages. If you listed your cell number as your home/primary number and not as a cell phone, you likely aren't going to receive text messages from the school. As we approach the long weekend with a potential threat of a hurricane, it is critical that all families have their cell phone numbers appropriately entered. This will ensure that you are receiving the latest communication from the school.

If you need to change your contact information to include your cell phone, please don't hesitate to email Mrs. Haas at thaas@sjalakeland.org with a request to include your cell number.

Denim and Diamonds T-Shirts

Support our biggest fundraiser of the school year with the purchase of a Denim and Diamonds Tshirt. Students may wear the shirts to school on Thursdays with uniform bottoms. Shirts are on sale in the school office for $10.

School Mass Choir

When you sing, you pray twice! Students in grades 3-8 are invited to join our School Mass Choir! Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 3:15-3:45 in the school chapel. Students who attend practice on Tuesdays will serve as the choir and song leaders on Wednesday mornings. At 3:45pm, Mr. Fleitz will walk students out to the parents at carline. If parents aren’t in carline by 3:50pm, the students will be escorted to aftercare.

Parents are welcome to join us, but please remember that diocesan policy requires that parents and guests may not sit with the students. Thank you for your cooperation with this policy.

Food for our Food Pantry

Thank you for sending in canned goods every Wednesday! This is a great opportunity for you to teach your child(ren) about giving to those less fortunate. We are grateful for your generosity. God Bless You!

Prayer of St. Joseph

O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen.
