Student Org Shout-Out
Monday, August 31st
Honorables of Color
Hello everyone,
The first Honorables of Color meeting is today, Monday, August 31st from 7-8 pm in the Honors Lounge (Tuttleman 204)! That's today! Everyone is welcome, so spread the word, bring a friend, and come and have a conversation with us and your fellow honorables!
About: The Honorables of Color work to create a sense of community and network of support among a diverse group of Temple Honors students. With our meetings we hope to establish a forum for exchange and conversation in which we share and process a variety of ideas, topics, and social questions. We acknowledge the unique experience of a minority college student and hope to connect with peers and faculty all while valuing the significance of surrounding yourself with a diverse group of scholars!
Hope to see you there!
Jemie, Chris, & Nadira
Active Minds
Active Minds is having its first meeting of the semester-- today we will be discussing Myths vs. Realities in Mental Health and how to destigmatize mental health issues on college campuses. We will be meeting at 5:00 on August 31 in room 223 in the Howard Gittis Student Center. We look forward to seeing you there!
OWLchestra
Come make beautiful music and new friends at OWLchestra!
OWLchestra is the community string orchestra at Temple University. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in Arronson (room 240) in Presser Hall. The first rehearsal will be on Thursday, September 3. All are welcome and no audition is required.
This is great opportunity to get experience on a secondary instrument and make music in a low stress environment, especially if you're not a music major. If you have any questions or know someone who might be interested, please email us at OWLchestra@gmail.com.
Repertoire for the semester:
- Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
- Grainger's Molly on the Shore
- Vaughn-Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
- Vivaldi's Winter from the Four Seasons
Project Haiti
Project Haiti's mission is to raise funds and awareness for the St. Francis Xavier Orphanage in L'Artibonite, Haiti. In addition, every year on spring break we travel to L'Artibonite to visit the children of the orphanage.
Our first meeting of the year is next Thursday September 3rd at 8pm. The location for the meeting is still being decided, so email Andy at seraphin.andy@temple.edu for further information.
Mock Trial
Interested in improving your public speaking skills or honing your acting abilities? Want to learn more about the law and the work of trial attorneys? Check out the Temple Mock Trial team. Our team is one of the most competitive academic organizations on Temple's campus. We have won at the Regional Championships every year since 2009. Members of our team consistently take home many individual awards and place at invitational tournaments all across the East Coast. To learn more about what our team has accomplished in the past few years, click here.
If you would like to learn more about mock trial, our team, and the tryout process this year, come to our Information Session on September 2nd, at 6 p.m. in Anderson 821. You will also have the chance to hear about the benefits of mock trial for your future from one of our attorney coaches--who currently works as a City Solicitor--as well as the last president of TUMT, who is currently a student at the University of Pennsylvania law school.
If you have any questions, you can check out our website or feel free to email us at templemocktrial@gmail.com.
