Connecting Families to School - June 2015
WMS HAPPENINGS
School-wide Community Service
Students in Mrs. Papino's classes have collected close to 1000 canned goods as a community service project. All canned goods are donated to the community and to our schools as needed.
The Student Council donated $200.00 to The George Nasuti Foundation as part of their community service this year.
Mrs. aRusso's Reading Class
Mrs. aRusso's reading class is completing their quarter 4 Science Fair projects. Mrs. aRusso will be scheduling an exhibition where other teachers, students and administrators can come and admire our hard work and discoveries.
Mrs. Lorea's Math Classes
Mrs. Dubois's Reading Class
Sixth grade students from Room 114 created dolls from dried apples. After peeling the apples and hanging them to dry for many weeks, students created a costume to match the doll's shriveled face. Students created the dolls after studying the Irish potato famine while reading the novel, Nory Ryan's Song by Patricia Reilly Giff.
SMILE Club
Music Department
We have had a great year in the music department! Come celebrate the achievements of our student musicians at their end of the year concert on June 2 at 6:30pm at Woonsocket High School Auditorium. Admission is free!
We are still accepting course sign ups for next year. Forms are available from any music teacher or in the main office. Chorus and band will be offered as a class during school day, during the encore period. Please get these in as soon as possible, so that they can be put onto student schedules over the summer.
With band being during the school day, the WMS Music Boosters are kicking off a capital campaign for instruments, called Band Together for WMS Music. The end goal is to ensure that any student that joins band has instrument to play, without worrying about renting or purchasing their own. We are accepting donations of gently used band instruments (especially flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets) and monetary donations for repairs and purchasing new instruments. Please direct any questions tojhburns@woonsocketschools.com. Thank you!

From Your School Nurses
Sixth grade students need up-to-date physicals and immunizations before returning in September. Any physical you had in the sixth grade would be acceptable. If you are going during the summer, please call and let us know when. Have the physician fax a copy to our offices when completed. Non-compliance could mean being excluded from school.
