Weathering, Erosion, Deposition (Part 1)
Weathering- To wear away or change the appearance or texture of something.
Erosion- The process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents.
Deposition- Something that is being laid down.
Chemical Weathering- A process whereby rocks and minerals are transformed.
Types of chemical weathering- Dissolution, Hydration, Biological, Oxidation, Hydrolysis and silicate weathering.
Examples of chemical weathering- Acid Rain, Acid from plants, oxygen, Acid from Lichens.
Mechanical Weathering- The process by which physical forces break down or reduce a rock to smaller and smaller fragments, involving no chemical change.
Types of Mechanical Weathering- Organic matter, Abrasion, Frost Wedging.
Examples of Mechanical Weathering- When it is raining it causes cracks in the road, It can also cause power outages.
5 main types of erosion- Wind, Water, Ice, Waves and Gravity.
Examples of Erosion- Wind- can break down, Water- Can crack it, Ice- Freezes it, Waves and Gravity- Can move it from one place to another.
5 main types of deposition- Traction, Suspension, Solution, Saltation, Extension.
Examples of Erosion- Force of wind, Action of water, Action of waves, Action of glaciers.
