Our crew has started off the summer strong. Our gardens and beds are growing. We've set up the water lines and fenced out the friendly neighborhood groundhog who enjoys our produce. We've fixed a tractor, moved a shed, spread out a ton of gravel, sorted Giveaway items in the warehouse, and even helped upgrade the church's playground. We harvested all our strawberries and made jam and strawberry shortcake. Sadly, this year the strawberries finished producing before CSA time. We've also been weeding...and weeding...and weeding some more. There is certainly always plenty to do in the summer when running a farm! It's a good thing our crew is phenomenal!
We love finding wild creatures outside as well as having pets come to visit. If you have
a friendly animal in your life, we would love to meet them! The pictures above only
show a fraction of the cuteness we have enjoyed this month.
We spent the final Friday of June enjoying a good old fashioned outdoor picnic. Interns and clients worked together to provide strawberry shortcake and hot-off-the-grill hot dogs and hamburgers. Board President Kitty Kromer, long time GG friend & volunteer Sue Weaver, and past intern Darius Surgenavic (Cam and Keaton's big brother!) came in for the celebration. Even Rachel's fiance, Mike, and her Dad, Rex, (who mows the lawns here for us) took time out of their day for food and friends. Our crew definitely deserved this treat for all their hard work!
CSA Pick Up Starts Tomorrow!
We can't wait to see all of our CSA folks! We have some really cool items for the first share day
as well as a streamlined new produce basket system and we are ready to kick this season off!
We'll send out the CSA Newsletter/Pick-up Reminder to subscribers tomorrow (and every Thursday) with a list of items, some recipes/tips, and photos that highlight all the goodness growing here! Everything will be set up and ready to go from 4-7pm in the Great Room. See you then!
Fish. Frogs. Dragonflies. Animal tracks. Splashing in the stream. We are so lucky to have the use of all this property for exploring and adventuring! Our crew took some time recently to head off into the woods, stroll back to the stream, and have some fun in nature. So beautiful and refreshing!
Farmer's Market at Harbel's
We have been enjoying our Saturday's at this beautiful new market in Columbiana. Stop in for a visit...we'd love to see you! Vendors man their tables on Saturdays from 10am-2pm and the market stays open until 6pm. The market is also open Fridays & Sundays from 12-6pm. Stop out and explore all the fabulous local makers, growers, and creators as well as some fascinating local history.
Of course, we'll also be at the July Youngstown Flea. Kitty will be stationed at an inside booth on Saturday the 9th from 9am-3pm. Beautifully, handmade, hand-crafted home goods and decor, grooming products, jewelry, sweets n' treats, and cool treasures to find as gifts for the ones you love most. It will all be there. Come #ShopTheFlea. Easy to find at 365 E Boardman St. in Youngstown.
