Fifth Grade GRIPS Participation
The faculty and administration are excited to welcome a new group of students to the GRIPS program at Johnson Williams Middle School for the 2020-2021 school year. The GRIPS program is the middle school gifted program where students are encouraged to tackle a passion or area of interest to explore for a complete school year and perhaps, beyond. This program is led by the wonderful Ms. Deem. Families of fifth grade students were emailed Monday, April 27th asking about their student's participation in the program so that work on schedules could begin. Please RSVP at deank@clarke.k12.va.us to let us know of your student's participation.
Dig It! Unit Update
For the next two weeks, students will be working with Gizmos allowing for science simulations to take place with soil erosion and weathering. We will have one more lab involving an oil spill before students will synthesize all their information to prepare a presentation focusing on soil, energy sources and conservation methods for planning Preservation Park.
Asking Good Research Questions for Fifth Graders
During the next two weeks, students will begin preparing for their transition to the GRIPS program at Johnson Williams Middle School with Ms. Deem. When students are offered the opportunity to work on a passion or topic of their interest so many students do not even no where to begin. They want to do it all! Students began using Thrively.com last year as a way to understand their strengths and passions. We will continue with this through "Discovering Your Strengths" and "Visualize Your Strengths". In addition, students will work through "Generating Research Questions" Nearpod experience.
