Principal Message
“Advent, this powerful liturgical season that we are beginning, invites us to pause in silence to understand a presence. It is an invitation to understand that the individual events of the day are hints that God is giving us, signs of the attention He has for each one of us.”
-Pope Benedict XVI
As we begin our Advent journey let us take the time to pause, slow down and enjoy the simple things in our lives. It is easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life but Advent is a good time to enjoy the gifts that God gives us, to slow our selves down, do acts of kindness for others, take the time to phone someone and have a visit.
Thank you to Grade 2 students and Ms. King who lead us in our Week 1 Advent Celebration, the video is on our St. John Bosco Facebook for you all to enjoy. Grade 5 and Mrs. Gosse will be leading our Week 2 Advent Celebration, it will be on Thursday Dec 3 as there is no School this Friday. Thank you Grade 5! Grade 8 students and Mrs. Horne are leading our Week 3, and Grade 9 students and Mr. Maynard Week 4. All Advent Celebrations will be put on our Facebook page, please share them with grandparents and other family members.
Thank you to all our students who have been working so hard, we are so proud of all of you! Please keep up the amazing work and always giving your teachers your very best work. Thank you parents for all your support, being on line or in person learning in school requires the home and parents working together with teachers. Thank you for participating in our first ever google meet Parent Teacher Conferences, we enjoyed talking and celebrating your children with you! During supper time please ask your child/children what they were learning and working on, please spend time reading with your child and grow that love of reading. Research shows that children are more successful in school and with academics when they have strong parental involvement.
We would like to put together a Virtual Christmas Concert, we invite our students to send us a Christmas themed video of them maybe singing a Christmas song or playing a Christmas song on an instrument (singing or instrumental piece), perhaps they could recite a Christmas poem. We ask that you limit it to 1-2 mins. Please video with an apple device using imovie and we will put together something wonderful for everyone to enjoy. The deadline for submissions will be Friday Dec 11, 4 PM. Please email them to your child/children's teachers and to carolinerichards@gpcsd.ca. Thank you for sharing the joy of the season with and for others.
Please take a look and print off our December Calendar that is attached, we have some spirit days planned for our students, and we would love for you to share pictures of the students on these days as well as other days and we will put them up on our School Facebook page.
On behalf of the staff we would like to wish you a blessed Christmas season full of God's love, Merry Christmas to you and your family and Happy New Year!
Peace!
