Scholastic Book Fair Next Week
We are excited to have our book fair back on campus next week in the media center. Literacy is a lifelong skill that we all need to excel in our careers. Research shows that students who read early and often at home for at least 20 minutes a day are far more likely to have academic success in high school and in their postsecondary endeavors. Be sure to look through our catalog and book fair page and let your child pick out some good books that get them excited about reading and literacy. If they need help with a title or book selection they can always speak with their teacher or Mrs. O in the media center.

Early Release Fridays & Response to Intervention (RTI)
Next Friday, we have another early release for staff to analyze data and plan future instruction. We are currently in the 3rd year of our Early Release Friday calendar at DVUSD. The reason behind this early release schedule is to allow job embedded time for our teachers to collaborate, analyze data, and identify standards, skills, and students who are in need of reteaching, enrichment, or an adjustment in pacing.
One of the focuses this year at Sierra Verde and DVUSD as a district is to target skills and standards to reteach if students don't demonstrate mastery after the initial instruction. This "Response to Intervention" or RTI time looks different at each grade level, but all grades implement time each day to reteach skills and concepts in small groups to targeted students who need additional support. This job embedded time is critical to the success of these interventions as teachers work through the PLC process to plan RTI intervention groups and reteaching strategies.
Updates from our Office
- We have been getting a large amount of office requests to deliver items left at home. Please takes some time to review our SV Office Policies in that attachment below. Starting Monday we will be enforcing these policies, and we will not be interrupting instruction to deliver forgotten items unless they are glasses or Chromebooks.
If you are calling into the attendance line and your student is not sick, please be sure you specify that they are well and/or taking a personal day. Otherwise when a student is called in ill, we need to have a negative Covid test before they can return to campus, when presenting a covid like symptom.
Next Friday is a 2:00 pm early release for our staff to work in their PLC Collaborative Teams
Our PBIS Store has been slammed with our Vipers spending their points for Being good citizens. We are running low on prizes and would welcome any donations, especially; $5 gift cards (Target, Walmart, Starbucks, etc...) and Mystery Prize Box items. These can be any trinket from goodie bag favors to small items you have around the house. Students big and small love to earn a chance to pick a prize out of the Mystery Boxes!
