Big picture

Hello, Castle View Families:

Thanks to all of you who came to Back to School Night! It was such a joy to have you all in our school and meet many of you face-to-face. I so appreciate your engagement and the conversations we got to have-- I feel lucky to be here and have the chance to partner with you in supporting your kids.

I wanted to reiterate a couple of tools we shared on Thursday that can help you support your student as they navigate high school. As a parent myself, I know that as my kids have grown up, I've found it tricky to find the balance of helping them learn to advocate for themselves, while remaining a support system and advocate for them. These two tools help me to stay connected to their education while still giving them the space they need to become who they are and find their voices:

  • Infinite Campus helps me to know some quick and top-level information about their grades and attendance in school. I'm sure many of you are familiar with this system, but if you need a refresher or are new to it, you can find a step-by-step tutorial, as well as the link to log in HERE.
  • Canvas is our Learning Management System (LMS). Access to my kids' LMS gives me a chance to see the assignments they're working on, the progress they're making on their classwork, and their day-to-day experience in each of their classes. Knowing what they're working on allows me to ask better questions and have deeper conversations with them about what they're learning. You can view a step-by-step tutorial on how to become an observer in your student's Canvas courses HERE.

Thanks again for partnering with us. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions, celebrations, advocacy or concerns. My door is always open.

As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.

Attention AP Students!

You must register in AP Classroom for each AP course you take in order to register for the AP exam. Your teachers have your course access codes. Please register no later than September 1, 2022.

One-to-One Technology

For your student to fully participate in the classroom learning environment, they will need to bring a minimum of a Chromebook-level device with them daily by the third week of school.

A small number of devices are available for long-term check-out for students demonstrating need and meeting requirements.

If your student needs to check out a computer from CV and they haven't received one yet, it is because they likely have not completed this Student Due Process Acknowledgment form. Please have your student complete ths form ASAP so our tech team can get them a computer as soon as possible.

Parking Permit Update!

School has been in session for a couple of weeks now, so all of our Juniors and Seniors who are parking at school should have a parking permit hanging in their car. Security will begin issuing parking violations ($20) to students who are not displaying a parking permit in their car. If you have already applied and paid for the parking permit, please have your student stop by the Bookkeeping Window before/after school or during lunch to pick up the permit. Students must present their Driver's License and current proof of insurance.

If you have not applied for a parking permit yet, you can find the permit application HERE. Students who have not yet obtained the permit should not be parking on campus.

CVHS Attendance Procedures

Please follow this system as it allows for a seamless attendance process.

Below are the steps that are to be followed when communicating attendance for your student.

1. Call attendance line: 303-387-9002

2. Choose the correct line (early release, late arrival, all day absence) and leave a message.

Early Release

After we receive your message, we will send a pass for your student that will allow them to come to the front office to sign out at the provided time. If your student is returning for the day, they must sign back in immediately when they arrive back at the school.

If you call your student out to leave early and they do not sign out, it will not be “excused.” If your student signs out, returns later, and does not sign back in, it will not be “excused”

In order for your student to leave the school, a parent/guardian must call the attendance line and complete the steps above. No student is allowed to leave unless cleared through a parent/guardian via message on the attendance line.

Late Arrival

If your student is arriving late, a parent must call the late arrival line and leave a message including the information asked. When your student arrives late to school, they must stop by the front office to sign in and get a late pass that will allow them into their classroom.

If you call your student in late and they do not sign in, they will not be “excused”

If your student arrives late, signs in, but we do not receive a parent call on the attendance line, they will not be “excused.”

All Day Absence

If your student is going to be gone for the entire day you will leave a message on this line. Please refrain from coming into the school to sign your student in/out instead of calling the attendance line.

Future Planned Absences of Three or More Days

For future planned absences of three or more days, the Pre-Arranged Absence Request form must be completed prior to the absence and returned to the main office at least 48 hours in advance of the absence.

Thank you for following our system, we appreciate you greatly.

DCSD Future Funding Needs

As you may know, the Douglas County School District is considering an initiative to help address funding challenges in our school district. Additional funding would be critical for us here at Castle View High School. Our staff is amazing and absolutely dedicated to our students and they deserve pay that is more competitive with other school districts - this will help us retain the amazing teachers and support staff that work with your kids every day. Additional funding would also enable our school to continue to make necessary upgrades and repairs to provide your student with a comfortable and safe learning environment.

Please watch this video and share it on your own social media page(s) so others can understand how schools such as ours are funded. Talking to our taxpayers in Douglas County will take all of us working together.
