A Night to "Read"member
Join us for another fantastic family night on April 13th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. We've lined up several authors and illustrators from Alaska to read their books, talk with our students and families, and get kids excited about reading, writing, and illustrating. This event will be a FREE zoom event for all MLE families to enjoy. All students that participate in the event will get a book of their choice from one of the authors! The line up includes Shelley Gill, Evon Zerbetz, Ray Troll, Susan Ewing, Ann Dixon, Deb Vanasse, and Robert Blake! More information will be coming out soon!
MSBSD Instructional Climate Survey
Parent/Guardian feedback is a critical component of school improvement. We are asking parents/guardians to take a few minutes to provide feedback related to their experience, as well as their student’s experience, with our school. In particular, the survey asks questions related to customer service, communication, and instructional practices. Your responses will remain anonymous, and your participation is appreciated. Click HERE to take the parent survey. All students grades 3-5 will take the student survey at school. Questions? Give us a call! (907) 352-6100.
Q3 Report Cards
Report cards (and IEP progress reports) will be sent home with students on Monday, March 21. Please call teachers if you have questions (or they don't make it).
Spring Testing Schedule at MLE
Aimsweb, iReady, MAP and AK STAR
Fourth quarter is here and that means we've got some spring assessments to take! Our assessments not only help us determine what kids have learned this year, but also help guide our staffing, instruction, and class-building for next year.
Want to know how to help your child do his or her best on spring assessments? Try the following:
- Get a good night's sleep before testing.
- Eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast.
- Attend school every day possible to not only receive daily instruction but to avoid testing make-up days.
- Encourage your child to try his or her hardest, use the test time wisely (versus rushing through), and to show what he or she knows!
What tests do we need to take?
- Kindergarteners will be doing Aimsweb (one minute tests checking letter names, letter sounds, and blending) on April 25th. They will also take their end of year Ready Diagnostic (math test) April 28th-May 3. MAP testing for reading and math will take place April 18-19.

New Boundary Exemption Process for MSBSD
The Matanuska Susitna Borough School District is a district of choice with an “open enrollment” policy, which means that a school can accept boundary exemption requests from all MSBSD students who reside outside their boundaries, based on whether they have staffing and capacity. Since schools can receive over 200 boundary exemption requests each year, requests submitted before April 1st have the best chance of being accepted. However, students from out-of-boundary schools must provide their own transportation. Boundary exemptions are now accepted through Parent Vue. Complete and submit the Boundary Exemption Form through Parent Vue – Click Here for Instructions
Spring Picture Day : Watch for flyers coming home!
Students will pose for individual pictures as well as class pictures. If you'd like to volunteer to help with pictures (and receive a coupon toward your family's purchase), please call Ms. Donna in the office.
