From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Great job to the SOTW on their performance Friday evening despite the drizzle! This week's performance was much stronger than the previous week thanks to the student's hard work and some quality outside rehearsal time last week. Hopefully we will have another dry week this week to keep adding to our show! Thank you as always to our amazing Band Booster parent volunteers and especially our Chaperone Coordinator Robyn Fodor for chaperoning on Friday evening and helping keep our students safe and Ellen Deloach for keeping our students fed and hydrated.
Congratulations to the 24 Winter Park Band students who auditioned for this year's FBA All-State ensembles on Saturday at Ocoee HS! From the Band Booster President, Mrs. Dana Adkinson
Happy Sunday, Band People!
Great job Friday night, Band Kids (and chaperones and directors!) .. despite the soggy weather, you all looked and sounded great .. and looked like you had a great time! Thanks, chaperones, for being there .. and if you missed the Concessions Meals Hat Moms, look for the pictures on the Winter Park Band facebook page later today! ;) And look for game pics each week on the band facebook page!
Congratulations to all the students who auditioned for All State concert and jazz bands yesterday .. just preparing an audition certainly represents a lot of work .. good job on the preparation and good job on representing WPHS with dignity and class at Ocoee High School yesterday.
Lots of things coming up in the next few weeks! Homecoming Week is not this week, but next, which brings an extra SOTW performance during the middle of the week. The band will be marching in the Homecoming Parade and performing in the subsequent Pep Rally in the Park on Wednesday, the 28th. We still need a few more chaperones for the parade .. so please check your calendars and see if you can help us out. Chaperone sign up is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football You'll definitely get your steps in that day, but it IS a good dose of WPHS tradition and vintage school spirit! So help out if you can.
And we still need to fill a handful more of chaperone slots for football games as well .. super easy tasks .. just ride the bus, watch the kids, enjoy the game and ride the bus back. These band students are really good kids and they make chaperoning super easy: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football
Senior Night is the last home game of the football season (Friday, November 4th). It's the game where all of the senior students who participate in Friday Night Lights are honored .. and it will be here in just a few weeks. Of course, we'll be honoring our Band Seniors and their families as well with several traditional milestone markers. In order to plan and coordinate the activities for the night, we'll need a group of senior parents who can help us with the preparation for Senior Night. Please email me at dana@keepsakefloral.com if you will be able to help us get things ready to make the evening special for our Seniors.
Reach out to any of the board members with any other questions or concerns: (http://www.winterparkhsband.com/band-boosters.html) or directors.
Have a great week, Wildcats!
Dana Adkinson
Band Booster President

Tri-State Nomination Request Form
Festival of Winds (University of South Florida)
The University of South Florida’s School of Music is proud to host the 47th Festival of Winds on December 1-4, 2022. FOW was founded by Jim Croft in 1974 and has grown to become one of the finest events of its type in the southeast. In addition to playing in one of three large concert bands conducted by outstanding clinicians, students will participate in master classes, attend multiple concerts, play in a chamber ensemble or jazz band, and experience the thrill of being on a college campus for four days. Participants are nominated by their band directors based on their musical and leadership excellence, and must be high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors in order to be eligible.
The 2022 Clinicians are Dr. Amy Acklin (University of Louisville), Dr. Terry Austin (ret. Virginia Commonwealth University), and Professor Ray Cramer (ret. Indiana University). We are confident that there are no finer clinicians in the country, and that these three exceptional musicians will provide deeply enriching experiences for the participating students. In addition, students will interact with and learn from USF's outstanding School of Music faculty.
If you wish to be nominated for Festival of Winds, complete the Google form below before Monday, September 26.

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
