Major's Moment
This jellyfish was found at Half Moon Bay on Thursday. It looks so beautiful, fresh, clean, maybe even innocent. Yet, the information I found on the jellyfish shared a different story. The Mayo Clinic site says "Jellyfish stings are relatively common problems for people swimming, wading or diving in seawaters. The long tentacles trailing from the jellyfish body can inject you with venom from thousands of microscopic barbed stingers.
Jellyfish stings vary greatly in severity. Most often they result in immediate pain and red, irritated marks on the skin. Some jellyfish stings may cause more whole-body (systemic) illness. And in rare cases jellyfish stings are life-threatening."
Now, we know God had a reason for creating jellyfish, but if we were to find a simple lesson regarding this creature, it could be that "innocent" looking things can be hurtful, sneaky, unassuming, and even cause death. If we're not careful, we can start getting close to things that look innocent, or feel safe, but can be dangerous to us. God wants us to choose Him, His path, His Word, and His Kingdom. Let's keep our eyes opened to the sin that surrounds us and so easily entangles. Set our hearts and minds on God above. God wants us to have abundant life with Him.
"Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers, But they delight in the law of the LORD meditating on it day and night. They are like tress planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do." Psalm 1:1-3 (New Living Translation)
