Learning. Growing. Collaborating & Achieving @KrumHighSchool
March 13-25, 2017
Hello, KHS families:
Good evening.
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Krum High School, we appreciate your support and willingness to work as a team so that we can continue to prepare our students for success. It's hard to believe that spring break has already arrived! Throughout the campus, we are gearing up for EOC's and AP assessments, as well as extracurricular competitions.
When we return, students that have been preparing for the District 9-4A UIL Academic Meet will compete on Wednesday, March 22nd. In addition, Softball and Baseball will have District Home Openers! Moreover, please note - if your son or daughter is enrolled in English I or English II, he or she will take the required EOC on March 28th and 30th. Algebra I, US History, Biology, and AP Tests will be in May.
We wish our band a very safe trip to Disney World as they prepare to perform at the most magical place on earth. We wish our softball, baseball, and FFA members the best of luck in the competitions in which they are competing during spring break. In addition, we wish all of you safe travels as you spend time with those most precious to you. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, March 20th.
Go Bobcats!

NHS Students Attend State Leadership Conference
The Krum High School National Honor Society took ten of its members to the State Summits of Texas leadership development conference on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, under the supervision of Barbara Lightfoot and Jackie Jackson. Students and teachers came from various schools in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, eager to learn more about becoming a leader in their schools and community. The students broke off into smaller groups after the introduction of the day in order to receive specific and more personalized teaching. Some groups had hands-on activities while other groups incorporated a group discussion and collaboration. Some of the breakout groups were Project and Team Management, Strategies for Community Engagement, Digital and Social Media, and Improving School Climate and Culture. The final caucus groups were based on the student workshops of Global Citizenship, Improving Learning Environments, and Operation: Conservation. At the end of the day, a small number of students from each caucus group were chosen to present their big ideas in front of all schools in order to inspire change within the community. Kelsie Roberts (senior), Allison Lackey (junior), Ronnie Gentry (junior), Emma Brummett (senior), and Abby Wimmer (junior) represented Krum High School NHS by being parts of different groups that were chosen to present their ideas for change on stage. Involvement and active participation played a key role in the day’s activities, and no person left that conference without the reminder that they matter and their voice is powerful.

Wade College
Wade College offers students the opportunity to learn in the heart of the merchandising and design industries. The college is part of the Dallas Market Center, the world's largest wholesale merchandising and design complex. The Dallas Market Center is a 6.9 million square-foot complex consisting of four buildings. The complex consists of the Trade Mart, Market Hall, the International Trade Plaza, and the World Trade Center. Students have access to a complex that hosts over fifty wholesale markets a year.
Because Wade College is affiliated with the Dallas Market Center, students at Wade College have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, work in showrooms on a daily basis, and work the wholesale markets, thus gaining priceless industry experience. Many students make connections that allow them to travel to other markets around the country as well as enter permanent employment once they graduate.
Wade College occupies approximately 16,000 square feet on the fourth floor of the INFOMART building and another 800 square feet on the first floor of the World Trade Center of the Dallas Market Center. Additional areas throughout the complex are also available for college use. These areas are used for student orientations, exhibits, portfolio presentations, large assemblies, presentations by special guest lecturers, and graduations.
At Wade College, every student, regardless of specialty, has access to every course and every facility. Classrooms are spacious. Student-to-professor ratio is about thirteen-to-one, and the student-to-computer ratio is about three-to-one. Wade College uses state-of-the-art equipment including multimedia-equipped classrooms, a fashion design studio, an interior design studio, an art studio, and three computer laboratories, including one dedicated to visual communication. Various other equipment and support materials are available for the art and design studio courses.
Wade College is a privately sponsored college offering associate and baccalaureate degree programs in fashion design and production, interior design, merchandise marketing and management, and visual communication. The college is a teaching institution that emphasizes specialized professional study and the liberal arts.
Wade College exists and operates to provide its diverse student population with the skills and knowledge to be a productive part of American society. It further seeks to provide them with an enriching cultural, moral, economic, and social experience. The college is committed to serving the changing requirements of the merchandising and design fields and preparing its student for excellence in their career fields by providing knowledgeable faculty, continually updated curriculum, and modern facilities.
The purpose of Wade College is to offer programs of instruction that are designed to allow students to:
- Develop the competencies necessary for immediate employment and career advancement in their chosen fields.
- Continue and complete a formal education in graduate colleges and universities, if so desired.
- Develop intellectual, humanitarian, and leadership skills that will advance their potential for success.
- Engage in continual self-improvement.
For over fifty years, Wade College has inspired individuals to lead meaningful careers in design, fashion, and merchandising.
Founded by Sue Wade in 1962 with only ten students in Dallas, Texas, Wade College originally offered day and evening classes in fashion merchandising and professional modeling. In 1965, the growing institution moved from its Turtle Creek location to its current Dallas Market Center address, and in 1971, the curriculum shifted to full-time programs in merchandising and design. As graduates found success, the faculty expanded, and the library’s holdings increased, Wade College was granted accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in 1985.
Today, Wade College offers Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Fashion Design and Production, Interior Design, Merchandise Marketing and Management, and Visual Communication. The college provides a solid general education curriculum, designed to introduce major areas of knowledge and to stimulate individual interests in specialized fields. Students benefit enormously from the college’s location within the Dallas Market Center complex, which offers the ideal professional environment for individuals seeking industry experience and early exposure to the merchandising and design industries. Professors have diverse backgrounds and professional experience. The college’s curriculum, location, and faculty contribute to the college’s goal of nurturing and challenging each student’s intellectual and professional development.
