Freeman Mustangs Newsletter #5

Material Pick Up Process
Pick up will be from the gym doors. Please enter the back of the building off of Glenwood (playground area). You will follow the traffic flow towards the back gym doors and exit onto Randall Road. Tables will be set up for each grade level where staff will be anxiously awaiting to get your child(ren) their materials. Please have your child(ren)’s name(s) and homeroom teacher ready to share or write it on a piece of paper so a staff member can call it out upon your arrival. If you are unable to come during the allocated times, please let your child’s teacher know and we will look to make other arrangements. We will be providing each family with a set of signs with your child(ren)'s first and last name to be utilized for future supply pick-up dates.
Library Book Check Out Information
We are excited to share that Mrs. Boyle in the LMC sent out her Friday afternoon lesson on Wednesday because it gives directions on how students can check out books!!!!
We are hoping to have library books for our K-5 students to pick up, but you have to follow the directions she sends to you.
How LMC Book Check out will work:
Kinder-2nd grade students:
Via Seesaw students will fill out a book choice menu.
Every 2 weeks, they will use this book menu to choose from a variety of topics, genres, and favorite authors. Students may choose the number of books they will be able to read over a 2 week period. The book menu’s topics will change every 2 weeks.
If your child would like a particular book title, please send those requests to Mrs. Boyle via Seesaw.
3rd – 5th grade students:
Via Seesaw, students will receive an assignment that includes a step-by-step of how to log into, search for, and put a book on hold using Destiny Discover. Students will be able to put on hold as many books as they will read in a 2 week period. The video is linked here as well. https://www.loom.com/share/abd84b30343a4245b0e55cfb459269d3
Stay tuned for information about returning procedures once you are finished enjoying your books.

Mustang Mindset: Identifying our Emotions
This past week we discussed in the classroom and during our morning announcements about how we can identify our emotions. We read the book A Little Spot of Feelings: Emotion Detective by Diane Alber.
Student Attendance in Virtual Learning
With the nature of virtual learning, there will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning sessions, including scheduled small group sessions. All live sessions will be recorded and will be made available to students and parents if they are unable to attend. On a daily basis for student attendance, we will be assuming positive attendance for each student. If a student is not present for a live lesson and/or does not engage with assignments on Seesaw throughout the day, the student will be marked absent. Staff will maintain communication to follow up on items that may have been missed during the absence.
If a student is unable to participate in virtual learning for the day, please contact the office at 630-301-5002 to report their absence.
Tech Tips
This week we reviewed the difference between the Seesaw Class App and the Seesaw Family App.
If you would like an additional caretaker to have access to Seesaw, you may reach out to your child's teacher via email or Seesaw message and provide the desired email address. Your child's teacher will then send an invite to Seesaw.
Here is a quick 1:45 video showing how you can save all of your child's Zoom meeting IDs for quick log-ins.
