AIS Friday Flash - Head of School eCommuniqué (December 18, 2020)

Holiday Tidings
As we rejoice that some of the events of 2020 are soon coming to an end, we also reflect and appreciate the joyous moments. We have so much pride for our remarkable students and teachers and great admiration and appreciation for our families who have continued to partner with us. It is an honor to care for, teach, laugh, play, and learn with your children each day. Thank you for sharing them with us. We wish you the happiest of holidays and hope you all enjoy a healthy, safe, and relaxing winter break!

Classroom Highlights

Our students enjoyed celebrating the holidays this week with crazy sock day to wild hats, pajama day, secret santa, and more. Our CE1 students created beautiful winter landscapes while others created beautiful books in a box, and our Middle Schoolers continued their unit on Pompei with constructions in art class.

Gala Save the Date

We would like to extend another thank you to those of you who participated in our Gala survey. Based on current health conditions and community feedback, our Gala will be 100% virtual this year! Stay tuned for more details after the Winter Break and save the date for February 20, 2021, for a fantastic virtual evening of celebrations in honor of our 20th school year including a silent auction, live auction, raise the paddle, and more!

A Season of Giving-Make an IMPACT!

So far, we have raised $14,200 for our Annual Fund! Thank you for your generosity.

You may make a 100% tax-deductible gift online here to support our Annual Fund or to other program designations here (like STEAM, Library, Playground, Fund Run, etc.), drop the self-addressed return envelope in the mail, or pass it to us at drop-off. We thank you for your partnership and support. You can also make a pledge to be invoiced at a later date! Let's reach that $15,000 goal by December 31st so the AIS board will add $5K to our total.

Winter Break/No School-12/21-1/1/21

We hope everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy holiday over our Winter Break! Monday, January 4th is a staff in-service day.

Teacher In-Service/No School-Mon., 1/4/21

Monday, January 4th will be a teacher in-service day to prepare for the new year. The school will be back in session (virtually) on Tuesday, January 5th through January 8th. On-campus classes will resume on Monday, January 11th. The school will continue to monitor prevailing health conditions and recommended guidelines from the CDC and APH and will update you with any modifications to this schedule.

Distance Learning-Tue., 1/5-Fri., 1/8/21

As a precaution, and on the advice of APH and our school's medical advisors, we will move to a four-day period of Distance Learning from Tuesday, January 5th to Friday, January 8th.

It is important to point out that this four-day move to distance learning must not be considered an extended holiday. All community members who have engaged in moderate to high-risk activities—including travel by plane—are expected to be back in Austin no later than Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 to complete a quarantine and/or testing. Community members who have engaged in moderate to high-risk activities must not return to campus until required quarantines and/or tests have been completed.

Holiday Health and Safety Reminder

As a reminder, all absences related to COVID-19 (including quarantines) are considered excused absences this year. While I hope that everyone makes decisions that keep themselves and their loved ones safe this Winter Break, I must reiterate that the health and safety of everyone at AIS—teachers, students, and their families—is a shared responsibility. For the health of our community, please responsibly evaluate your activity risk levels this winter break.

Virtual Head of School Coffee-Thur., 1/7/21 9:00 am

Join Jacques for a virtual Head of School Coffee on the first Thursday in January, 1/7/21, to welcome in the new year. For the January coffee, Jacques will share the overall results of our last MAP Assessment. Hint, hint...our students are amazing!

Report Cards Disseminated - Fri., 01/15/21

Student report cards will be sent out on Friday, January 15th via email. You will receive a link to your child’s report, which will be valid for 14 days. We recommend saving a digital copy and printing a copy for your records within two weeks of receiving the link.

Welcome New Families

We look forward to the addition of new and returning students to our community next semester. Please join me in making the Farthing, Sampson, Slentz, Watson, & Wright families feel welcome!
