School Update
Cambrian School District, June 26, 2020
Dear Cambrian Families,
I hope you have been able to get outside to enjoy the wonderful California weather in the best way possible with your family. I am writing today to update you regarding our ongoing planning related to reopening schools in August 2020. As I have mentioned before, the conditions under which we will reopen will be heavily influenced by the public health restriction in place in August. We are working closely with the Santa Clara Public Health Department (PHD) and we expect to receive guidance and restrictions regarding school reopening by June 30th. Once we receive this information, we will send another message to our community explaining the PHD guidance. We will use this information to help create a detailed reopening plan for our schools. We are making a concrete plan that we can communicate to you by mid-July based on information known.
In the meantime, we have spent the last two months working on multiple school schedule scenarios and plans in anticipation of various guidelines from the Santa Clara County Department of Health. A great appreciation is in order to all the students, families and staff members who responded to the seven surveys sent out to gather information for planning for the fall. We had over 4,000 responses to the surveys.
In planning for the fall, we’ve also gathered information from students and teachers interacting on synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities, staff professional learning training, and the numerous staff, student and community surveys. We also have a reopening committee that has met over the course of the last month and half coming up with many schedule options. The curriculum instruction and assessment committee has been meeting to review the lessons learned from the Spring of 2020 in preparation for reopening with respect to curriculum, technology, instruction, and assessment. Workgroups are also developing plans around safety/hygiene, student support, health, attendance, food services, and ongoing communication.
Our commitment and guiding principles will be to ensure no matter what type of schedule we have for the fall, that our priorities are:
The health, safety, and care of all our students and staff
The social-emotional well-being of all our students and staff
Continuing high expectations to achieve student learning
Equity will be our guiding principle for all students
I hope you are enjoying the wonderful summer weather and getting outside safely. We very much are looking forward to welcoming you back to school in whatever form that may be.
We are CAMBRIAN.

We Need Your Input!
In preparation for our schools reopening in August of 2020, the Cambrian School District (CSD) is planning a school schedule for students with the most current Santa Clara Public Health Department guidelines in mind. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. As such, we understand that some parents may have concerns about sending their children to school. For that reason, we are asking parents to respond to a short survey of their preference about full-time distance learning versus a hybrid of in school (child on campus) and distance learning (at home).
