Welborne Word
October 16, 2023, Issue #8
Dear Families,
Congratulations to our Cross Country runners who competed in the Regional Meet last week! It was fun to see the runners as they returned to school with positive experiences to share! Good luck to the runners who have qualified for the District Meet this Thursday. Information about that event will come directly to families from the coaches.
Tonight is our School Council Meeting. All are welcome! The virtual meeting begins at 6:15 pm. We try to keep the meetings at 45 minutes in length.

This week is Fire Safety Week. This week, Kingston Fire and Rescue will visit all schools, including Welborne to assist in providing a fire drill.
We are in need of gently used pants in sizes 3T and 4-6 to have on hand for when students soil themselves or get wet on the playground. If you have any sweat pants or other pants with elastic waists (no jeans please), please send them to the attention of the office team.
If you have any questions, please email us at welba@limestone.on.ca.
Warm regards,
Ms. Fraser, Mrs. Wellwood, and Ms. Hart
Message from the Director
On a daily basis staff across Limestone support student achievement and well-being, and work hard to create inclusive spaces where every student feels valued, seen and included. Our work to support all students is critical. All forms of hatred and terrorism must be denounced.
Limestone District School Board (LDSB) unequivocally condemns any acts of hate and remains committed to ensuring an equitable and inclusive school environment for all students and staff, and as a school board and community we must confront acts of hate in all formats.
Harassment, discrimination, and hate have no place in Limestone. We support all students, staff and the greater community by embracing safe and caring school environments.
Earlier this week, Minister of Education Stephen Lecce said: “As educators and staff, we ask you to be proactive, compassionate, and determined to stop any form of hate impacting students, such as antisemitism or Islamophobia in Ontario classrooms. We ask that you remind your school communities about the ongoing importance of creating safe spaces for the students and staff that enter each day.”
Many events taking place globally increase feelings of distress for students locally. It is not uncommon for students, staff and families to experience a range of emotions and to have questions about challenging world events. Reactions will vary.
With that in mind, we want to provide some resources that may be helpful during this time:

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month
Cyber Security Awareness Month (Cyber Month) is an internationally recognized campaign heldevery October to promote the importance of cyber security. To help Ontario school boards promote safer and more secure practices across their school communities, the Educational Computing Network of Ontario (ECNO) has created the K-12 Cyber Awareness Month Campaign.
With the 2023 theme, “Together we rise: Cyberheroes unite for online safety!,” ECNO is encouraging educators, students and families to unite to increase awareness about potential threats to our cyber security, cyber safety and online privacy, and promoting best practices.
Each week in October, the campaign will focus on a different theme related to cyber awareness. Find the full list of themes below, and be sure to check back each week for new tips and resources related to the topic of the week.
