December 22nd - Polar Express Day

Come to school in your most comfy pajamas. We will be boarding the Polar Express just like the children in the movie. We will read the story and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate together as we watch the movie.

December 23rd - Holiday Party and Gift Exchange

We will be having our holiday party during the day on the 23rd. If you would like to send a treat along with your child for this part, you can do that!

In the past, we have also done a small gift exchange along with our party. We ask that if you would like your child to participate in the gift exchange, please bring along a wrapped gift under $5. Boys will exchange with the boys and girls with the girls.

If you would like your child to participate and are unable to get a gift, please jot me a note and I will help out the best I can!

Reading and Writing

We read "Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Mouse" this week. The students did a great job predicting the words that the rhymes would end with. We continued to work on rhyme production and final ending sounds.

During writing, we started personal narratives. Many students are struggling with continuing the same story across pages. We will continue to work on this during the next few weeks.

We kicked off our new chapter of composing numbers and decomposing numbers 4-10. They are doing extremely well with these concepts.

Holidays Around the World

Over the next few weeks, the classes will be looking at different Christmas traditions around the world. The students have their suitcases packed with their Holidays Around the World books and passports!

The ones we've covered so far:

The Netherlands: The students made their own clogs to leave overnight in the classroom. Sinterklaas came and left them a candy cane!

Israel: We talked about the Jewish celebration of Hannukah. They learned the terms "Menora" and "dreidel". They even got a chance to play dreidel in small groups.

Italy: The class made La Befabna's broom that the good witch flies around on and deliveries presents on.

Mexico: We read about the Legend of the Pointsettias. They then did a cut/glue activity to create their own flower.
