Welcome Back & Renegade RoundUp
I would like to welcome you to the 2021-22 school year. I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe. After a year and a half of many different forms of education, we are excited to welcome all our students back to the building for full-time, in-person instruction. While our students, staff, and families have worked diligently over the last eighteen months to maximize the academic, educational opportunities in a global pandemic, nothing can replace the energy and interaction that takes place when our students and teachers are collaborating with each other in the building on a daily basis.
This year, we are starting something new that I am incredibly excited about: Renegade RoundUp. A Renegade RoundUp group is composed of six students randomly selected from each grade. Each group has two or three staff members assigned as facilitators. These groups will meet on a regular basis as we start the new school year with the hope of building a sense of community within their groups. In short, we want to foster a Sense of Belonging for every student in this building. So many of our students are involved in a club, activity, or sport, and it is through these organizations that students have traditionally found a sense of belonging. But, there are students that are not connected to our school, they do not feel like they are a part of anything related to Shawnee. Our hope is that bonds that are formed in our Renegade RoundUp sessions will lead to new connections for our students at Shawnee. There are numerous studies that correlate a student's connection to their school to a rise in their academic achievement, in their attendance, and conversely, to a decrease in school disciplinary issues. We value the connections our students and teachers make every year through academic settings. Through Renegade RoundUp, we hope to provide new channels for students to interact and build rapport as they discover an even stronger Sense of Belonging at Shawnee.
There are many questions that can be answered by visiting our school website. Dr. Birnbohm’s correspondence, dated August 18th, provides a clear preview of the procedures under which our students will return to the building on September 9th.
The Genesis Parent Portal is open for the completion of back-to-school forms. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation in completing these forms. Please utilize our Shawnee Technology/Resources Handbook for troubleshooting and password management or contact our Technology Support Team for assistance.
Parents/Guardians who have completed all forms will be able to view student schedules.
Student schedule access opens at noon on September 5th in the Genesis Parent Portal.
Parents should review their contact information (Contact tab) to ensure the most up-to-date information is provided.
At this time, counselors are only addressing scheduling errors.
The first day of school for all students will be on Thursday, September 9, which will be a full day (7:30am - 2:27pm). Information about bus routes and pick-up times is available in the Genesis Parent Portal. We look forward to the first day of school setting the tone for an outstanding academic year. Students should look to their school email account (student ID@lrstudents.org) for information leading up to and during the school year.
Lockers will be available to students who request them. You must log into Google using your LRHSD credentials in order to access this Locker Request Form. Students who request a locker will be emailed a locker number and combination within one week.
With the return to full-day instruction, we will provide breakfast and lunch for all students. Due to federal funding, one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal will be made available for every Shawnee student every day. Menus can be found here.
Beginning Monday, September 13th, students who have a study hall will have the opportunity to come to school late or leave early on days when their study hall is the first or last period of the day. Students must have the approval of their guardian and provide their own transportation.
We encourage all students to get involved with their respective grade level classes. Please follow your class on social media for the latest updates and events! Additionally, all athletic schedules can be found online.
In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you may have. I look forward to working with all members of the Shawnee Family as we continually “Move Forward Together” in the 2021-2022 school year.

Be safe,
