News from School Counselors

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness month. During this month, we will be making a presentation to your 7th & 8th graders on this topic. The goals of our presentation will include how to recognize the warning signs in others and the importance of getting help from an adult. In addition, students that may be struggling mentally or emotionally will be encouraged to seek assistance. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for this age group. Research has shown the importance of educating students on this topic and is one of the keys to prevention. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at collinsk@usd231.com or warnerjl@usd231.com. Should you need immediate assistance, the Johnson County Mental Health Crisis line is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week at (913)268-0156.
