In preparation for a Code Orange day!
As we enter the winter months, inclement weather days may lead to a Code Orange. Code Orange will be used for days when inclement weather is impactful enough to close school buildings, but not so substantial where business operations cannot continue. One important note to understand is that due to the extensive number of bus delays and double/triple runs, Code Orange will be used instead of delayed openings this school year.
Below is an attachment with important and helpful FAQs for families. In preparation for Code Orange days, we would like to send home a few important reminders for our students. One, students are responsible for the school issued computers and chargers. Two, students are also responsible for bringing the school issued computer and charger to and from school every day that computers are sent home in the event that a possible Code Orange may be called. Computers can be costly; therefore, we have attached the links to the School's policy and care for computers and the link if you wish to purchase device insurance.
Students are responsible for the care of their school laptop. Here is a link to the Parent/Student Device Handbook website. Please take a look.
If you wish to purchase optional device insurance, the county provides this service through a second party vendor. Please click the link below for more information. It is $32.95 for the year.

School to Home Information
- Grading policy- As we follow Prince William County grading guidelines at Montclair, we want to provide clarity to students and families about the assignments students work on and the grades they receive. Graded assignments will be posted in ParentVue for families to review. Assignments will be clearly named so that families know which Standard of Learning they were aligned to. Our standards-based grading means that letter grades represent the level of student proficiency on a specific standard. Most assessments will be taken in Mastery Connect, which is a platform that provides teachers detailed reports on students’ understanding of grade level standards. Please see our grading scale below:
MASTERY: Above Standard (A)
PROFICIENT: Meets Standard (B)
APPROACHING: Approaching Standard (C)
SUPPORT: Beginner (D)
BELOW: Below Standard (F)
- Test Retakes- Students are offered the opportunity to retake unit tests in Reading, Math and Science. Any student who scores a support or below on any standard are eligible for a retake. If you would like your child to retake all standards please reach out to your child's teacher. A student may only retake a test after they have done additional practice to help them improve in areas where they struggled. Test retake dates will be announced in the weekly newsletter.
- Cell Phone Policy- Cell phones are to be turned off and left in backpacks all day.
- Snack/Water Bottles- Please send a snack and a water bottle to school with your student. We eat snack after Recess. If you would like to donate snacks to your student's homeroom class, please make sure they are peanut/tree nut free, and in prewrapped packages. Thanks!
- Jackets! It's beginning to look a lot like Autumn! While our building is adjusting to the fluctuating temperatures, please make sure to send your student with a jacket or sweatshirt.
