CONCERT ATTIRE (Change from last year)

The performance attire this year for Concert and Symphonic Band will be what we'll refer to as "concert black" - black from top to bottom.

Shoes, socks, pants, belts, skirts, dresses, shirts, ties, bow ties, suit jackets, blouses, etc. Everything black.

As outlined in the Band Handbook, the concert attire for Beginning Band is black bottoms, black shoes and the band polo that will be checked out to students.

THIS WEEK

Fundamentals - we have started combining elements of instrument technique and notation reading. Beginning Students have now learned 3 notes, but the main focus is still proper tone production.

JCMS BANDS - Excellence from the Start

REQUIRED INSTRUMENT SUPPLIES

We will use ALL of the supplies listed on the Supply Checklists ALL THREE YEARS of middle school band and into high school. Some students have not been able to participate fully because they don't have the correct book (Sound Innovations), mouthpiece, ligature, BERP, tuner, etc. Again... We will use ALL of the supplies almost daily all THREE YEARS of band.

You can find the list of required supplies here:

https://jcmsbands.weebly.com/instrument-supply-lists.html

If you have any issues in obtaining any of the supplies for your student, please communicate with us ASAP. We are always happy to assist in any way that we can to make sure that every student can be successful.

Returning Students do not have to re-purchase supplies that they already own from last year.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND NIGHT @ JCHS

All 7th and 8th Graders should have received a letter with details on Middle School Band Night, which is taking place at the Home Football Game on Friday, September 20th. This event includes a Thursday night rehearsal on September 19th at 6:30pm (which we accidentally left out of the information letter). Please sign and return this letter as soon as possible so we can send an accurate count to Mr. Morris and Mrs. Boxberger.

Last year was the first year for this event and it was a great success - we look forward to continuing this collaboration with the high school band.

PRIVATE LESSONS

We are continuing to receive information from private instrument instructors in the area - so far we have K-State professors, K-State students, and community members.

ALSO check out this great opportunity in Manhattan. The Community School for the Performing Arts is a collaboration between K-State's School of Music, Theater, and Dance and the Manhattan Arts Center. There are even scholarship opportunities for students on reduced or free lunches. Check it out!
