A Publication of St. Gabriel the Archangel School 5/11/2022
Dear Fabulous Families -
- We have some good news to share. We have been working diligently for the past several months on applying for EANS 2 funding. Our application was approved yesterday which means our school will benefit from many valuable resources over the next two years and beyond. Some of these resources include curriculum development, resources to assist our learning consultant including interventionists, teacher and parent training, and the ability to obtain educational assessments to diagnose learning disabilities instead of utilizing SLPS. Books, furniture, and a STEM lab with curriculum, among other items, will also be purchased on our behalf through DESE. We will continue to update you as we receive more information.
- COVID Cases: We have had 9 COVID cases in the past week. They were in 2G (x2), 2O, 3B, 5A, 5G, 8S (x2), one instructional aide.. Please report any cases to Nurse Ciegel in a timely manner. As of 5/11 our building positivity rate is 1.49%.
- Just a reminder that Friday is a noon dismissal for Field Day. Please read below the information from Mrs. Morris who has worked hard to put together another fantastic day for your students!
- Please see the information under the PFA banner regarding donations of cleaning supplies to the Claver House. Begin bringing in supplies this week!
- Last, please review the Nut Aware Policy below that was approved by the board. This begins on Monday, May 16. A nut-free table will be available in the cafeteria.

Nut Aware Policy Begins Monday, May 16
(Note: this policy is subject to changes in cafeteria use, and other policies may temporarily supersede.) As the prevalence of peanut, tree nut and other food allergies has increased, St. Gabriel the Archangel School has adopted a "nut & allergen aware" policy to support the safety of our students. This policy is consistent with best practice medical recommendations.
In a "nut aware" environment, high allergen (peanut, tree nut) foods are allowed in the cafeteria, but are to be avoided as much as possible in individual classrooms. Please do not send snacks containing peanuts or tree nuts with your child. These items can be sent for lunch.
All students with known allergies MUST have an allergy action plan from a physician and all appropriate medications on file in the nurse’s office at all times. Faculty and staff will receive regular education on food allergies, on the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and the use of epinephrine auto-injectors, and on emergency procedures. In case of an emergency, all classrooms are equipped with phones with 911 access. Exposure to allergens will be minimized as much as possible, but cannot be guaranteed. Families of children with food allergies should continue to teach precautions with their children. Our school nurse is available with assistance on working with individual children.
The following are the cafeteria guidelines:
1. A nut free table is available for all students with peanut, tree nut and other food allergies. All students eating at this table should have a lunch that is peanut and tree nut free.
2. The student with the allergy may invite one friend to eat with him or her for the whole week. The parent of the child with the allergy should be in communication with the friend’s parents as to what is appropriate food for them to have the nut free table. The parent should be in contact with the homeroom teacher as to which friend will be at the table for the week. If these steps are not followed, the school may disallow the friend at the table to ensure the safety of the other students sitting at the nut free table.
3. There is a separate bucket and washcloth for this table with which to be cleaned during lunch.
4. A basket will be available for the students in which to put their lunch boxes to keep them separate from others.
5. All students are instructed to eat the food that they have either brought from home or purchased in the cafeteria; no food swapping.
Modifications to guidelines during the school day may be allowed in limited circumstances, and any modification must be contained within a student's allergy action plan and made in consultation with parents, the school nurse, and the administration."

Dear Parents,
Thanks to all the family and friends who were able to join us for our 2nd grade and 8th grade Baptism Masses this week. Next week's Baptism Masses are for the 1st and 7th grades.
Last Friday, our 5th graders led us in a Living Rosary. We are grateful for their leadership! The prayer service started with the 8th grade processing into church and a crowning of Mary. Elianna Hennessey crowned Mary with Brody Rapplean and Mila Richard as her helpers. The three are our newly baptized community members!

For May, we will focus on being Messengers of the Good News by living the Catholic Social Teachings.
We are called to witness God's love and mercy to the world.
The School Sisters of Notre Dame(SSND) have a developed a Land Ethics Statement to help guide daily living practices. See the link below for ideas to live with gratitude and respect for all of God's creation.

Please pray for Pope Francis' intention for May:
We pray for all young people, called to live life to the fullest. May they have the courage faith generates, and be dedicated to service.
Baptism Masses Are Resuming
We are grateful for the parents, grandparents and relatives that are able to join us for Mass. We have begun to celebrate baptisms by grade level on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The grade level that is leading Mass will be the grade level that is celebrating their baptism. See schedule below. During Mass, we will have a renewal of our baptismal promises. Each grade level student that is celebrating may invite a parent, god parent, grandparent or special friend to process in with them and to sit with them.

Prayer For Our Community
God, Lord of all creation, lover of life and of everything, please help us to love in our very small way what You love infinitely and everywhere. We thank You that we can offer just this one prayer and that will be more than enough, because in reality every thing and every one is connected, and nothing stands alone. To pray for one part is really to pray for the whole, and so we do. Help us each day to stand for love, for healing, for the good, for the diverse unity of the Body of Christ and all creation, because we know this is what You desire: as Jesus prayed, that all may be one. We offer our prayer together with all the holy names of God, we offer our prayer together with Christ, our Lord. Amen. From the Center for Action and Contemplation
Peace and blessings!

Bother the Father
Have you ever had questions about he faith, but never had the opportunity to ask? Do you like your parish priest? Do you like to watch your parish priest squirm a bit when asked a difficult question? Are you one to enjoy other’s company? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you would enjoy "Bother the Father". A group of parishioners come together every Tuesday at 6:30 pm to pelt the priests with questions. We meet in the rectory basement (but may move outside on good weather days) or through Zoom using the following link: https://zoom.us/j/7934230575.
We upload these sessions on YouTube and Facebook as well. If you like to know more and keep up to date with the sessions, you can join the “Bother the Father” group through Flocknote to receive text and email updates. No topic or question is off limits.
