March 22, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Westwood Families,
Welcome back and welcome spring. Yesterday was the start to Trimester 3. The last trimester of the year is typically filled with a variety of events. It is important to review the Westwood calendar for dates.
Trimester 2 report cards will be available through Campus Parent Portal at the end of the day on Friday, March 24. Report cards are just one of many ways that we report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards.
Report cards for students in Grade 5 and Grade 6:
- All grades received reflect student learning that occurred so far this school year.
- An NA indicates that students did not have opportunities to learn this outcome in trimester yet this year.
- An NE (No Evidence) grade indicates that students had opportunities to learn this outcome, but did not submit any evidence of their learning. As a result, there is no evidence to determine where they are at toward meeting the learning outcomes.
Report cards for students in Grade 7 and Grade 8:
- Course grades for trimesters are based on student learning for academic outcomes that were designated in the trimester overviews, developed for each course at Grades 7-8 and shared with students and families in Schoology at the beginning of the trimester.
- Students will receive a grade of NY (Not Yet) for any courses where they have submitted evidence of learning but have not demonstrated proficiency in their learning to result in a grade of A, B, C, or D. Students who end a trimester with a grade of NY will continue with the learning to acquire the academic outcomes until they demonstrate proficiency on course learning outcomes that result in a grade of A, B, C, or D.
- Students will receive a grade of NE (No Evidence) for any courses where they have submitted no or limited evidence of learning during the Trimester. Students who end the Trimester 2 with a grade of NE will continue with the learning to acquire the academic outcomes until they demonstrate proficiency on course learning outcomes that result in a grade of A, B, C, or D.
Ramadan starts today. If your child is observing Ramadan, please communicate with your child’s teacher and or the office on any accommodations they may need to support them during this month.
Have a great week,
Tom Larson
Principal
How to log in to Schoology
As we begin the last Trimester of this school year, we want to remind families that Spring Lake Park Schools students use Schoology (grades 3-12) for their learning.
Parents/guardians can also access Schoology and follow along with what their children are learning in school. Once a parent or guardian logs on, if you're not sure what you're looking at or where to find something, ask your student to give you a tour!
Schoology embeds course content, videos, assignments, quizzes, links and more. Parents/guardians can access Schoology and have total visibility into what their children are learning at school.
- If you are logging into Schoology from a computer, use this link. Watch this video to learn more.
- If you are logging into Schoology from the app, make sure to select Log In through your School and type in Spring Lake Park Schools. Watch this video to learn more.
- Check your parent settings and preferences for the year to receive Schoology updates. Watch this video to learn more.
Find more information on Schoology, parent password instructions, and so many more tips and video tutorials about our technology tools on the Technology Tools, Resources and Log Ins page.
