MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

APRIL 24,2015

Dear Parents

This week we have been discussing ways on how to save our planet from being buried in so much trash! Our students understand that trash and garbage are a part of people’s lives, but that there are safe ways to separate and dispose of it to prevent us from having a bigger environmental problem. They also understand that there are certain biodegradable trash (mostly food) that, when processed appropriately, gives proteins and minerals to our soil making it rich for plants and trees to grow strong and healthy.

SONG OF THE WEEK

Litter

(tune: If you are happy and you know it)

If you see a piece of litter pick it up
If you see a piece of litter pick it up
You will make the world look better
If you pick up all the litter.
If you see a piece of litter, pick it up
.

NEXT WEEK

We will keep on extending our study. We will be investigating how the recycling centers work and how is old material recycled into new and useful material. We will also think about which places or activities produce more trash than others. Also analyzing where could we find less trash (like inside closed properties) and where could we find more trash (like public open spaces) and why do we think this is.

PLAYDOUGH

SAFARICK'S ZOO

A unique and interactive experience! We were surrounded by different species of tropical birds such as the great green macaw, toucans and even peacocks! As we walked through the aviary some of the toucans flew around us. We got to see the life cycle of butterflies in the butterfly enclosure.

There were so many kinds of monkeys! Our favorite part was feeding the monkeys and the deer. As we walked through the park, we saw the different plants and trees providing fruits and shade for all the different animals.

It was a beautiful experience we will cherish forever.

RECYCLING CRAYONS!!

The children were amazed to see used crayons and candles that we would usually throw away turn into something new!! They experienced the procedure of melting, seeing how it turns into liquid; and once it cools down it solidifies. The colors turned out beautifully and now they have a brand new multicolor crayon and a lovely candle. Let them tell you all about it!
