"The primary objective of the Student Leadership Advisory Council is to educate, encourage and inspire our next generation of Texas leaders by providing them with a venue to learn the intrinsic value of public service," stated Leach. "It is my hope that through this program, these bright young leaders will leave with a more thorough understanding of the nuts and bolts of the Texas Legislature and the significance of civic engagement."
Representative Leach's office is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in grades 9-12 in public, private or homeschool and must reside in District 67. Students selected to participate in the Student Leadership Advisory Council will be required to attend three meetings throughout the 2015-2016 school year. Meetings will be led by Representative Leach and his staff as well as other elected officials, covering various topics including the significance of community involvement, the role and functions of state government and the overall legislative process.
